The young waterbender couldn't help but grin as she made her way through the streets of the newly forming city, the sun gently kissing her skin as she walked, warming it against the morning air. It was finally happening, after all the talking, all the planning and all the meetings that had been had, she and Aang were finally moving to Republic City permanently. They were finally given permission to start construction on what would one day hold a new Air Temple, but most importantly, their home. It had been six years. Six short years since the war had ended, and the last two had been full of debates and arguments amongst the young couple as to where they were to go from there. What they were to do. Katara was sick of tents, sick of camping. She wanted a home. Somewhere stable where they could come back to, where they could sleep in a real bed and build a life. It wasn't what Aang had in mind. Not right away.
She darted quickly between stalls, pausing only to pick up the herbs, vegetables and spices she required to cook that evening before she made her way back to the waters edge, a smile spreading across her face as she saw Aang standing there smiling back at her. He was perfect.
"I got everything for dinner" she told him as she soon closed the distance between them, her lips finding his as she pulled him into a kiss. "Good" the young monk smiled back, wrapping his arms tightly around his waterbender, his lips pressing gently to her forehead, lingering there as he breathed in her sent. "I still like being taller than you" he chuckled. Katara couldn't help but grin "I've always liked you in whatever size you've come in" she told him, pulling away to look up into his eyes, looking up in time to see him roll them.
"Miss perfect Katara" he teased, and the waterbender couldn't help but poke her tongue out at him, and it didn't take long for him to pull her back into yet another kiss, the couple happily ignoring the whole world until the airbender's lemurs made its way onto his shoulder, a small paw desperately trying to separate the pair.
"Momo!" Katara complained as she pulled away, groaning as Aang couldn't stop himself from laughing, swatting his arm gently. "Come on, let's go home" she told him, a small smile on her lips, and her eyes caught the huge grin on Aang's as he looked down at her, all the love in the world reflected in his eyes as he took her in.
"Yeah…" he grinned "Home. Our home" he reminded her, helping her and Momo up into Appa's saddle.
It didn't take long to fly over to the island, only a few short seconds, and the pair had soon touched down on their untouched little island, the pair wasting no time to get off the flying bison and take in the trees around them, their hands finding each other as they held on to each other for dear life. "It's perfect" Katara whispered, her head leaning to the side to rest on Aang's shoulder, a giant goofy grin across his face. "More than perfect" he replied in awe.
"It's all ours" Katara whispered quietly "It's going to be our home" she smiled "I know I said I was worried, but I don't care Aang. I don't care that we may be in a tent for the next few years. I don't care that we're going to have to start and stop and start and stop the building, or that we're going to be forced to spend time apart. It's so beautiful…. I've fallen in love with the Island all over again" she told him quietly, a small, content smile on her lips "This is going to be our home. This is the start of our life together" she smiled.
Aang couldn't help but grin and kiss her gently. "I wouldn't have it any other way" he smiled "It's all just beginning".
