My first entry for Shanny-Boo's Kaiora oneshot challenge, which has now been turned into a 100 oneshot collection.
007 – Starry Skies
Kairi sighed, as she watched another star go out. It shot across the sky, leaving a trail of fire. She wrapped her arms around her knees, resting her chin on the back of her hand. She wiggled her toes in the sand, digging her feet in everytime a wave washed over them.
She sighed again, looking up as the thirteenth star that night shot across the sky before her. She looked at her pocket as a familiar ringtone began to play.
'This time, this place, misused, mistakes. Too long, too late, who was I to make you wait?'
Kairi took out her phone, looking at the caller ID. She groaned, and slid up the phone.
"What now, Riku?" she answered before her best friend had a chance to talk.
"Temper, temper. Anyways, are you watching them at the beach?" he asked, referring to the stars.
"Yes, why?" she snapped, her patience on a short line.
"The thirteenth star is about to hit the water." Kairi looked up as the star plummeted towards the sea. "I want you to check it out." Kairi stood, watching as the star plunged into the dark depths. She held her breath, waiting for it to rise, hoping for it to rise.
"Well, Kairi? Is it?" Riku asked. Kairi scowled, and hurled her phone against the Paopu tree. She dropped to her knees, and clenched the sand beneath her, her tears staining the ground.
"Who are you to make me wait, Sora?"
