The Sparkle in Her Eyes
"No, Pete!" Myka was sprinting into the kitchen. Her eyes fixed on the cookies in front of Pete.
"They're still ho-"
"OW!" Pete dropped the half eaten cookie on the floor and rushed to the refrigerator to get some cold water.
"Hot…" Myka walked up behind him, shaking her head at how childish he could be. She let out a sigh and picked up the cookie that was lying on the floor.
"Didn't you feel the heat on your hand before you put it in your mouth?" She threw the cookie in the bin and raised one eyebrow in a questioning look as she put her hands on her hips.
He turned to face her and took his hand away from his mouth to speak to her.
"Wew, I waw reawy wooking forward to va cookies and… I kind ow jushed… frew it in ma mouf and hoped for va beshed." He raised his eyebrows and grinned.
"Pete, in English please? All I heard was something about wanting the cookie and then throwing it in your mouth." She took her hands off her hips and handed him a damp cloth. Her face was engulfed in a smile at his goofiness.
"Yeah, somfwing wike vat. Fwanksh, Myka." He gave her an apologetic smile as he applied the cloth to his mouth, soothing the inferno on his tongue.
"Better?" Myka asked, taking the cloth as he handed it to her. His fingers brushed against hers, it was like a buzz of electricity transferred between them making her smile at the contact.
"Yeah, thanks. Man that was hot." His face was screwed up in a weird, well… in a weird Pete kind of way.
"That's what happens when you eat cookies that have come out of the oven thirty seconds before." She rubbed his shoulder in a comforting way as they walked out to the patio.
The stars glistened in the clear night sky as they sat down on the sofa, closer to each other than they normally would.
"It's great, isn't it Pete." Her voice was soft as she spoke, travelling smoothly into Pete's ears.
He turned his head and looked deeply into her eyes, searching for a sign. A sign to tell him that she felt the same way about him as he felt about her. He smiled softly as he replied.
"No, it's beautiful." He placed his hand on her knee as he looked up into the cool, dark sky.
"Hey, Pete?" He looked back into Myka's eyes. The star light reflecting off of them, making her eyes sparkle.
"Yeah?" He gently rubbed her knee as she took a deep breath in.
She placed a hand on his chest and the other on his cheek as she leaned in to kiss him. She lightly brushed her lips over his, barely making contact before he deepened the kiss. His hands held her waist as he slid his tongue over hers, making her groan at the contact.
They slowly broke apart. Both trying to catch their breath after what they had just done.
"Wow Myka, um. That was…" They left their hands on each other as they rested their foreheads together.
"Yeah, I know." She let out a small sigh at the realization of what had happened. They crossed the line. No, they leaped over the line at a million miles an hour.
"Pete, I have to go. I just…" She stood up and started to walk back inside.
"Myka wait!" He grabbed her hand to stop her. She spun around, an annoyed look on her face as her eyes bored into his.
"We're going to talk about… this, in the morning okay?" He rubbed her hand gently while he waited for her reply.
"Okay, Pete. In the morning. Now can I go?" She looked impatient as she waited for him to say something.
He slowly let go of her hand and she made her way to her room.
"In the morning." He whispered to himself a he rubbed his hands over his face. "This won't go well. Not well at all." And he slouched back into the sofa, staring at the stars, reminding him of how her round eyes sparkled when they spoke earlier. Reminding him of her.
