Set after DH, during a 8th year of sorts I suppose.

"Erm, Hermione? Can I ask you something?"

Ron Weasley nervously wiped his hands on his trousers, attempting to rid them of sweat. He had no clue why he was so nervous, it was just Hermione. Perhaps that was part of the problem. It had never been just Hermione and Ron, it had always been Harry, Ron and Hermione, often just Harry and Ron, or, though less common, but still not unheard of, Harry and Hermione. Only on few occasions had it been Ron and Hermione, sans Harry, and then they had been surrounded by the Weasley family, never really alone, or fighting for their lives and the fate of the wizarding world. That was going to change, Ronald Weasley would make it just them.

"Ron?" Hermione eyed him strangely during the few moments he seemed lost in thought. "If you're going to actually ask me a question, could you get to it?" She gestured to the books in her hands, "I'm going to the library...well what's left of it."

Taking a deep breath, Ron steeled himself. "Next weekend is the first Hogsmeade weekend," he started. "I thought maybe we could go..."

Hermione shifted the pile in her arms, "Of course we're going..."

This was the moment of truth, Ron gulped. "Not you, me and Harry, just you and me." He tried to wipe his hand nonchalantly on the back of his trousers again. "Just you and me, like a date."

Hermione smiled brightly at her sometimes idiot boyfriend. "Of course we're going, just you and me. That's what couples do. Ron, we're dating already, you don't need to actually ask me out every time we go somewhere." She patted his arm while awkwardly balancing her tower of reading material.

"Oh." Ron scratched his head, a bit embarrassed.

"Though, I'm glad you mentioned the just us part, I think Neville was going to ask if we wanted to go with him and Luna...I'll just tell him no for this time," Hermione added over her shoulder as she scurried off to the library.

Ron grinned, that had been far easier than he had anticipated. Hermione was his girlfriend after all. He didn't know what she was on about, with all the Neville stuff. Maybe he'd go and see if he could find good old Neville...
