A/N: This is my first ever story, and I know it's just an annoying little one-shot, but this was just a little daydream I decided to publish for maybe a smile or so, so please treat it as such. Please review!
Disclaimer: I don't do disclaimers, it's a fanfiction site, obviously I'm not the owner. Hmm but I could be someday if John Flanagan happens to "discover" that I'm his long lost daughter... Then dies... Oh dear, that's not what I want at all.
Oops that was a disclaimer.
Oh well.
Just read the story you judgers.
Enjoy!
Apples and Honey
Halt and Will sit at their small wooden table in the cabin eating and talking. Will argues that apples are good for horses, and that seven in one training session is fine, while Halt protests that this exorbitant amount of fruit will only spoil his horse. They finish eating, and Will gathers their tableware and takes it to a bucket of water set up on top of the cupboard. Halt helps him.
They continue disputing the finer points of training a ranger horse, then Halt says,
"You wash, I'll dry."
They continue talking as they wash up, Will scrubbing the dishes in the bucket with rough soap, Halt drying. They finish, and put the dishes in the cupboard.
"I'll get the coffee." Will says hopefully, and Halt nods.
"Don't forget the honey."
Will smiles as he hurries to start brewing it. He kneels down and looks in a cabinet, then straightens in alarm.
"There's no honey!"
"We're rangers. We can manage without honey." Halt says, though he is scowling. "We'll go into town tomorrow and get more."
Will smiles as he spoons a large amount of honey into his coffee and none into Halt's. He pushes the jar further back into the cupboard with his foot as he brings the mugs to the table.
Halt accepts his, then quietly says,
"Go get me the honey jar; I know it's still half full."
Will looks guiltily over the rim of his much sweetened cup, then sighs and gets up.
As he bends down to get the jar from the cupboard, Halt says,
"We can go into town and you can see Alyss tomorrow anyway."
Will smiles, then decides to push his luck, remarking,
"And this wouldn't have anything to do with wanting to see the Lady Pauline, would it?"
Halt looks evenly at his apprentice, then grumbles,
"Go to bed, Will."
Will smirks as he grabs his cup and heads to his bedroom.
Halt puts some honey in his coffee, a bit more than normal, then smiles. Nothing wrong with getting more tomorrow. Nothing wrong at all.
