Summary: Today, September 7, 1533, I became a mother. Not to the son I had longed for, but to a daughter who means so much more to me than the son I never had.
In honor of Mother's Day I wrote a story for Anne Boleyn and Elizabeth. I really love their relationship and it really touches me how much Anne loved her daughter and I always find it sad that Elizabeth had to grow up without her.
I got the title from Elton John's song Blessed. It's not necessarily based off of the song, but I guess it could be because the song is supposed to be from a parent to a child I think. But I just thought it would be a good name for the fic.
This is my first Tudor story, so I hope it's good. Please review!
Blessed
I stirred in my sleep before my eyes opened. Elizabeth was crying, I just knew it. She had been given her own rooms for the time being until she moved to her own residence. But I had a sense she needed me. I do not know what this sense is. It is an overwhelming desire to be near her, an overwhelming knowledge of when she needs to be near me. I suppose it is a natural intuition of a mother.
And so I creep out of bed and slip my long, silk robe over me and leave the room. Trying my hardest not to wake up my ladies, I steel out of my bed chambers quietly. There are two guards outside, and I have to quietly reassure them that nothing is amiss. I walk through the corridors, and not far from my rooms are Elizabeth's. I walk in and as expected, I hear crying.
Her attendants are all awake and immediately bow as I enter. I walk past them to get to Elizabeth's basinet. Her charge, Lady Bryan, was cradling the infant in her arms, and as I entered the crying stopped.
"Your Majesty," she said. She bowed deeply. "Is something wrong?"
"Of course not, I came to see my daughter. She was crying, was she not?"
"Everything's well now, Your Majesty. Her Highness was simply hungry."
I held out my arms for my daughter. "Your duty here is done for now, Lady Bryan. I shall call for you if I need anything."
Lady Bryan nodded and obediently handed me Elizabeth before walking away.
I rocked her back and fourth, staring into her beautiful face. The faire child resembled His Majesty in many ways. But her beautiful, shadowy eyes were mine. She looked up at me with wonder, and as I cooed and told her how much I loved her, her little fingers wrapped around mine. My heart began pounding for a more breathtaking moment was there never. I longed for her small, pink lips to smile at me, but even if they were not, her eyes were.
But now those dark, mysterious eyes were growing heavy, and soon they drifted shut. I set a small kiss to her forehead.
"I pray thee God, my lord, bless this child."
Really short, but I just wanted to do a really cutesy, fluffy fic for the best mother/daughter ever lol!
