Written for round one of the Interhouse Competition (ChoCedric), the Ultimate Patronus Quest Challenge (C23) and the Marathon Competition (Starting point, Prompt: Happiness)
Cedric breathed in the cool air, stepping out of the castle and on the Quidditch fields. His bare feet sank into the grass, toes curling. The chilly air seemed to relax his mind and he felt more peaceful then he had all week.
His best friend, Roger Davies, wasn't having of that. "Cedriiiiiiiic," He whined. "Why on earth did you drag me outside at two in the morning? Blimey mate, if you wanted to meditate, you don't need my help or permission."
Cedric laughed. "Thanks man, I'm glad to hear how much you care about my mental health."
Roger mock-glared. "Why did you drag me hear? I know you wouldn't just waste my time like that..." Roger said, a threat creeping into his tone.
Cedric sighed. "It's about Cho…"
Roger rolled his eyes at the whining tone that Cedric was talking with. "Bro, you know perfectly well that I don't do the whole dating thing. I prefer my ladies in variety if you know what I mean."
Cedric, who knew exactly what Roger was talking about, cringed.
Roger continued, "However, for the sake of our friendship, I will listen to you. Just no tears."
Cedric took a deep breathe, "Cho and I- it's something other, man. I've never felt this way before her. It's like everything I've ever wanted."
Roger mimed vomiting. "And your point?"
Cedric took a deep breathe. "I need you to help me pick out a promise ring."
Roger groaned.
Cho laughed, her hair wiping in the breeze as she danced around the meadow.
"This place is beautiful." Cho said softly.
"Want to know something that's also beautiful?" Cedric said, slipping behind Cho and wrapping his arms around her waist.
"What?" Cho asked shyly, a blush staining her already flushed cheeks.
"You." Cedric answered, staring into Cho's eyes.
Cho was the first one to lean in, her lips softly meeting his.
They kissed for what seemed like forever, lost in the passion and fireworks.
Finally, Cedric pulled apart first, dropping to his knees.
Cho gasped.
Cedric gathered up all the courage he had. "Cho, I know we're both young, but I know that you mean the world to me. I'm not asking you to marry me yet, but this is a promise ring. I know it's a big commitment but-"
Cedric didn't even get a chance to finish before Cho leapt into his arms, slipping the ring onto her finger.
"YES, YES, YES!" She yelled breathlessly and Cedric felt all-consuming happiness when her mouth landed on top of his.
The only warning she gets is a sharp inhale from Marietta before she hears the screaming. Cedric Diggory, the best Hogwarts has to offer, is dead.
("Kill the spare" echoes in Cho's nightmares for the rest of her life.)
