Mr. Darcy sighed with impatience as the carriage moved slowly towards the ball. How slow was this carriage going? Can't it at least go a tiny bit faster?
Why was he even eager to go to the ball? He shook his head. He had no idea himself. He hated dancing and most of the women there were not handsome enough.
"Now, Darcy, don't look all depressed will you? It's a ball! Try and look cheerful for once," Caroline tutted at him.
He narrowed his eyes at her but made no reply as the carriage pulled up.
He got out and held the door for Caroline who gave him a small smile and for an moment he had an urge to roll his eyes, yet he would seem unproper and not gentleman like.
"Shall we?" She asked, fanning herself.
He nodded n agreement and both made their way to the entrance in silence.
"Ah! I told you they would arrive my dear Lady Lucas. Just a little bit late but that can easily be forgiven!" Cried a voice with delight and Mr. Darcy turned to see it was Mr. Bingley and Lady Lucas walking over to them. Lady Lucas was not looking pleased.
"I'm sorry that we are late, My Lady. We had some trouble with the carriages," He said, not sorry at all.
Lady Lucas nodded and turned away from the talk.
"I'm going to go and dance." Caroline said and she went off to find some gentleman to dance with her.
He made no comment and he and Mr. Bingley made their way to get a drink.
"Is Miss Elizabeth Bennet here?" He asked.
Mr. Bingley nodded.
"She is indeed! Though, her sister Lydia is rather unwell. Poor girl. Why don't you go and dance with her? You know how I hate you seeing you not dancing."
Mr. Darcy took a sip of his drink. "You know how much I hate dancing, Mr. Bingley. I assure you, I shall not dance this evening. Perhaps, with Miss Elizabeth Bennet if she chose's to accept my proposal."
"Someone mention my name?" Called a voice and Elizabeth appeared wearing a beautiful light green dress, clinging to her curves.
"Ah, Mr. Darcy here wishes to dance with you and was wondering if you would accept his proposal?" replied cheerily. Mr. Darcy narrowed his eyes at him, not entirely pleased.
Elizabeth turned to him and gave him a small smile. "Isn't this a surprise? Well then, I accept your proposal." She held out her arm for him. Mr. Darcy put sighed and put his empty glass down, giving one last glare at before turning to dance with Elizabeth.
The music was a slow waltz and he gently danced with her, their fingers enthralled with each other's.
Maybe, this might not be a bad idea after all.
"You are a good dancer, Mr. Darcy. I don't see why you do not like dancing," Elizabeth said while dancing slowly around each other, swapping hands and changing directions every so often. His eyes stared deep down into her chocolate brown eyes and they sent a shiver of pleasure down her spine.
He raised his eyebrow at her in question.
"Really? I must say, I am not a bad dancer. Perhaps, we shall have a dancing lesson together soon, Miss Bennet." He said and lightly kissed her hand as the song ended. He straightened up and walked away without another word.
Elizabeth stared after him with surprise and thought, what an usual man!
