A kind and virtuous youth this story tells;
The middle son of a cruel Russian Tsar,
His seven brothers love to torment him.
The lovely Firebird leads his quest afar;
Astray in tangled woods and forest dim.
The rainbow turrets, towering over trees,
The Katschei reigns in gowns of gaudy silk.
Fair maidens twelve the hero hopes he frees.
He joins the Firebird, who is not their ilk.
A land of magic by our hero reclaimed,
A Russian legend makes the young man famed.
