May I Have This Dance?
Warm firelight glowed on the dancing girl's scarlet hair, and sand shifted under her delicate bare feet. A sparkling sea-blue dress twirled below her knees, its surface catching the glints of the fire's sparks. A shaggy gray-and-white dog bounded up to her, and she caught his front paws and started dancing with him. Her voice rose into the starlit sky, singing in tune with the crackling fire and the crashing ocean around her, and the dog howled along.
She broke out laughing when her husband started clapping. "Bravo, bravo," Eric laughed, eyes twinkling in the light. Max bounded over to him with a good-natured bark, and Eric rubbed his shaggy head thoroughly. He glanced back up at Ariel with a gentle, loving smile. "You truly do sound beautiful," he added quietly.
She smiled broadly and bent down to pet Max as well, looking up into Eric's ocean-blue eyes. "Thank you," she replied in a shy, barely audible tone.
He smiled and gently cupped the side of her face in his warm, weathered hand; his eyes gazed deep into her pure and beautiful soul. "I love you," he whispered, the lights in his blue eyes flashing as the words left his heart and hit the air.
"I love you, too."
Before they could kiss, Max jumped up between them, his slobbery tongue happily licking both of them square in the face. The two dissolved into laughter after they had wiped the moisture from their faces, and suddenly Ariel felt Eric taking her hand and lifting her up. "May I have this dance?"
Together they twirled in slow motion, dancing to the music that no one else could hear but them. Their foreheads touched gently, and Ariel gave him butterfly kisses. He laughed at the feeling of her eyelashes and gently kissed her himself. She rested her head on his shoulder as they danced half the night away.
As the moon dipped down into the sea, they sat at the edge of the ocean, their bare feet splashing in the waves and their fingers examining every seashell's curlicued edge. The fire behind them died down as Ariel painted pictures of life under the sea and Eric talked about all the wonders they would see on the land. Max fell asleep to the sounds of their plans for the future and their hopes of having a daughter.
Eric gently kissed the top of Ariel's head, drawing in the sweet scent of her fragrant hair. "We will always be together," he whispered. "Come what may, we will fight through all the hard times and rejoice in the happy ones, and we will always do it together."
She rested her head in the hollow of his shoulder. "Always."
Thank you for reading and please leave a review! This is my first Ariel piece and rather short, and I appreciate feedback. :)
This was made as a surprise gift for two friends of mine who love Ariel and Eric. I hope you guys like it, and I hope I did a decent job writing it, even though it was super short. I've never written for Ariel before, but I wanted to make something sweet for you guys. Enjoy. :)
