Jayden/Mia
"Bride to Be"
"I feel so bad," Mia admits.
She is, of course, talking about the grand, white wedding dress wrapped in plastic that Jayden was currently tucking away. In fact, her eyes hadn't left the dress since they had gotten back to the dojo, and now Mentor wanted them to put it into storage. Even if it had just been for a sting operation, the dress seemed too pretty to sit and collect dust.
Jayden turns around to see her fingering the veil in her hands.
"It just seems like such a waste. You know?"
"You saved about a dozen brides from the clutches of Dayu. I don't think I'd consider that a waste if I were you."
"I guess I did do that, huh?"
He grins at her and takes the veil from her hands to drape it over the top of her head. "If it's any consolation, you can keep this." He looks away and she follows his gaze to the tall mirror they're standing before. "It can remind you of how beautiful a bride you made today."
A giddy smile spreads on her face and for a moment Jayden is kind of caught in those eyes of hers.
She has this expression of awe, as if this was the first time she ever viewed herself as beautiful. He thinks that the thought is kind of absurd since he knows how breathtaking she looks on a day to day basis, still graceful even when training. That kind of beauty seems impossible to have ignored for so long, yet here she was, beaming brightly at him like he had just opened her eyes to it.
"You sure know how to make a girl feel better, Jay." She surprises him by taking his arm as she had twice that day, but by now it feels natural. "And I'm glad I'll be able to keep this," she adds, reaching up to touch her veil. "It will sit in my room as a constant reminder."
He nods. "Of the day you saved all of those brides."
She lets out a laugh. "Of the day I almost got to marry you—twice."
They looked pretty good in that episode, don't you think?
(This was taken from "You Saw Me Start to Believe" because I disassembled the drabbles there and turned them into their own posts.)
