Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, nor do I own Hamilton's Dear Theodosia. They belong to J.K Rowling and Lin-Manuel Miranda respectively.

One week. That's all.

Not that James and Lily Potter knew this, but the Halloween of 1981 would be their last day alive. They were, of course, aware of the ever-looming threat of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named and his followers, but the young family had no idea how close threat was.

They trusted the majority of their friends, they saw all as family, but the stress of the war caused an increasing amount of tension between even the closest of friends. Remus was away so very often and was constantly secretive, that it was hard for them to not suspect him.

Even with the war, the Potter's tried to continue life as usual. They had survived a year and a couple of months without Voldemort discovering and killing them, and they assumed they would survive a few more at the very least. Both little Harry and James were frustrated with being cooped up inside, although Harry's reasoning seemed to be more along the lines of wishing to explore the outside world.

Recently, Harry had been waking up in tears throughout the night. Neither James or Lily knew what the cause was, just that they wanted to help their child, their baby through it.

On that day, exactly one week before Halloween, Harry cried harder than he had previously. Lily was the first to awake, and gently told James to go back to sleep, that she had everything under control. James murmured sleepily at her and, with a small smile, slipped out of bed and made her way to Harry's nursery.

Inside were many presents gifted to Harry throughout his short life, in particular, some well-loved dog, wolf, rat and deer toys that Harry and his parents treasured dearly. Lily made her way over to her crying baby and held him in her arms for a while, rocking him back and forth. As he began to calm down, Lily quietly sang to him, a lullaby that she had heard once.

"Dear little Harry, what to say to you?" She sang to him as his sobs quietened.

"You have my eyes, you have my father's name,

When you came into our world, you cried, and it broke our hearts." Harry's sobs had stopped altogether and now simply gazed at his mother as she sang to him.

"We're dedicating every day to you. Domestic life was never quite our style."

James couldn't help but smile as he made his way into nursery and heard that lyric. It fit him far too well.

"When you smile, you knock me out, I fall apart and I thought I was so smart."

With a large grin, James joined in, hugging both Lily and Harry close to him.

"You will come of age with a new nation, we'll bleed and fight for you, we'll make it right for you."

This was what the young couple hoped for their son; that the Wizarding War would be over and the world changed for the better by the time that Harry was all grown up.

"If we lay a strong enough foundation, we'll pass it on to you, we'll give the world to you."

Here, they paused. Harry was sound asleep, but both Lily and James wanted to finish this part of the song.

"And you'll blow us all away, someday, someday. Yeah, you'll blow us all away, someday, someday."

Lily and James Potter smiled as they carefully placed their child back in his crib, and crept out of the room. They stood in the hallway for a few seconds when Lily buried herself in James' arms. he smiled, slightly surprised, but held her.

And he would hold her for as long as she needed.
