Nightmare

L moved around his office, trying to get some work done. It was late in Wammy's House, around eleven at night, no one should be in to bother him, not even Roger. He sighed and looked out the window at the moon, he had the strangest feeling something big was going to happen soon.

Was it a new case…?

He hoped it would be, it's been boring cooped up here in the house, well, not entirely boring. Mello's and Near's constant rivalry DID keep him quite entertained, it was almost sweet of how they kept trying to surpass each other to become closer to him.

L smiled softly, then shook his head and returned to his work, sipping on his sugary coffee, half-eaten cake sitting on his desk.

Jumping at a sound behind him, he quickly leapt out of his chair and turned towards the door, grabbing a gun hidden in his desk. A bit unlike himself, but it was better safe than sorry.

"Who is it?" L asked, then was a bit surprised when Mello stepped into the room, the boy rubbing his eyes sleepily.

"L… I had a nightmare…"

L blinked, discreetly putting the gun away and walking over to Mello, looking down at the blond boy. "Do you want to talk about it?" he asked, trying to be gentle.

Mello blinked up at L and nodded, then watched the man settle on the bed before running over to the bed and crawling into his lap, clinging to L.

L blinked in surprise at Mello clinging to him. He shrugged and wrapped his arms around Mello, stroking the blond locks. "What was the nightmare…?"

"You were killed… You were staring into shock… falling out of your chair… I heard people screaming your name, one of them had a smirk, but then quickly went into an act, also screaming your name."

Well, this certainly shocked L. Dreams usually contained premonitions, or they could just be dreams. And he was fifty percent sure this could have been a premonition, because some dreams didn't happen to vividly. L shook his head of these thoughts and looked down at Mello, who was staring up at him. He smiled softly and hugged the boy closer, placing a kiss to the top of his head. "It was just a dream, nothing more…" He assured the boy, placing another kiss to Mello's forehead.

Mello nodded and snuggled into L, clinging to him, eyes closing. "Good… I never want to lose you…"
