This is a completely Luna-centric fic I thought up to better fit the prompt my good friend gave me. I hope it's worthy of Luna, as I tried to keep her as close in character as I possibly could. Please comment, rate/review, etc. as you like and feel free to point out any mistakes. I take pride in getting criticism because nothing is perfect on the first go round, nor do I expect to ever be perfect. Too much perfection is scary O.O LOL xD

Prompt: 500+ words, Luna as main character or central focus of main character's thoughts, and contain reference to some sort of herb. Challenge created by bubblecloudz

Word Count: 536 words

Luna Lovegood saw the best in everything around her.

Friends. Family. Nargles.

Well, nargles weren't good. But with her Spectrespecs, she could find anyone who had lots of nargles in their head. Like the time she found Harry. Spectrespecs are great, she thought, smiling.

She was not concerned with everyday things.

She loved being outdoors. She felt that a day was only right if her bare feet were covered in dirt.

But, above all, she loved her friends.

Ginny Weasley was her classmate. Lovely girl. But what a strange name, Ginevra. Luna dismissed this thought as easily as most people dismissed the existence of nargles. But they do exist, she thought, fingering her butterbeer cap necklace. They do.

Singing a made-up song, she gave an apple to a unicorn before going to Hagrid's for tea. Depending on the time of month, he usually had black tea, mint leaves, or an assortment of flowering teas. It reminded her of the old-fashioned tea service that was part of the Lovegood family tradition. Fortunately, Hagrid usually had plenty of sugar cubes on hand she would nab. Not for her tea, oh no. Luna Lovegood was a purist through and through. She kept the sugar cubes for her animal friends.

That was the second best thing about Hagrid. He was always telling her about some new animal.

Maybe one day, she thought, I'll fly away and see all the beautiful things in the world. Like desert sphinxes and snow on a summer day. She smiled as daydreams and rainbow skies flooded her mind. Most of her human friends were Gryffindors, she suddenly realized. Funny that.

On her way to Charms, Luna bumped into Blaise Zabini.

"Hey, watch where you're going!"

"Only if you watch your tail!" She laughed, waving a hand nonchalantly.

Blaise cast a spell that turned her hair teal.

"Lovely," Luna called back, admiring her new hairstyle. She really did like teal.

Blaise stared. Before Luna entered the Charms classroom, she muttered the counter-spell, vanishing the long amber cat tail from his backside.

"Didn't realize you liked the crazies," Draco Malfoy drawled, appearing out of thin air.

"At least she's a pureblood." Blaise's voice lost its humour.

Draco scowled and walked away. Blaise was getting awfully arrogant lately. But no matter. He must concentrate - suddenly, he, too, was face to face with Luna Lovegood. Stepping back as though he was afraid, Draco tried to flee - and ran into a wall.

Blaise couldn't resist snickering.

"Your nose is bleeding," Luna stated the obvious, her voice drifting away as she entered Flitwick's classroom.

"Come on, we've got Potions," Blaise nudged Draco as he continued to stare in shock.

In Charms class, Luna was performing a spell that put legs on teacups.

"Well done, Miss Lovegood," Flitwicked beamed. "Five points to Ravenclaw."

Luna grinned. She hoped to take the N.E.W.T. level Charms class, just like her mother. If she could fill her mother's shoes, she'd feel the blessing from above where her mother now experimented. But whichever way the wind blew, she'd be content. Father loves me, Luna thought, and he will always love me. For now, for forever.

And that was all Luna Lovegood ever needed to know.
