Derek saw her.

Everyday, he would walk down the clustered hallway, pushing and nudging his way past the crowd of the gossiping, cell phone baring teenagers, holding his sketchpad tight and close. Make his first left, walk down the hall a little bit, and bam. There she was.

For the moment or two that he had his eyes on her, he was in total awe over her beauty. But, as she passed, he smirked and headed towards his next class.

He thought he had seen her before, due to his curiosity on the internet. But, he didn't think much of it…Until this particular day.

On this particular day, he was going to be walking home, alone, in the snow covered streets, with his sketchpad and blaring music on those blue Skullcandies. He almost always had one headphone on one ear, and the other one on the side of his head, so he may hear if someone is calling him. It was basically his identity.

As he headed down the automotives hallway, he heard his friend Emily calling him.

"Derek!"

As he turned back in he was in total shock. Alongside Emily was this beautiful girl he passed by everyday. His stomach filled with butterflies as he did not know what to say or do.

Emily was talking to Derek as he stared awkwardly at this gorgeous girl, but he had no idea what she was saying. It was in one ear, out the other. He still had no idea what to say or do.

Finally, she spoke…

"Didn't you have your septum pierced?"

He waited momentarily to answer the question, as he was still trying to process the fact that she was looking at—even talking to him. Her voice was so angelic.

"Y-Yeah. I got a job, and they usually don't allow piercings, and lucky me, I got one."

Meanwhile, in the back of his mind, he was thinking…

"Oh god, I sound like such a tool. She's so pretty, why is she talking to ME of all people? Play it cool, Derek. Try not to studder. Remember to breath."

The angelic voice sounded again…

"I'm sorry, that sounds a little stalkerish, hahaha."

That laugh. So pure. So innocent. Derek thought it was kind of ironic that she said it sounded stalkerish, due to him looking at her online profile probably more than once. He was still a bit dumbfounded that she was even talking to him. The butterflies were spreading their wings by now.

"Haha, no, not at all. I'm D-Derek, by the way."

"Casey." She said with a smile.

"Well, Casey, it's nice to meet you."

He could not believe how calm and well-spoken he had been so far. Things were racing in his head. The butterflies were fluttering away as if they were in a calm wind by now.

Before he knew it, they both arrive at the exit.

"Well, here we are. Heh. I best be on my way. I'll talk to you tomorrow?" Derek said nervously.

"For sure." Casey said with a big smile.

Derek then pushed the door open into the frozen abyss, and started walking home, happier then ever.
