Disclaimer: I don't own Gilmore Girls. If I did season seven would be a whole lot different.
Rachel didn't know why she was going back to Stars Hollow after all this time. All she knew was that twelve years was too long, and that she was ready for something more than a life of traveling and adventure. That was why she left Luke in the first place though. She wanted more than Stars Hollow after high school, but lately all she wanted was someone in her life. She needed more than her camera, so she came back. She didn't know if Luke had moved on, but she didn't want to waste anymore time wondering.
She stood outside the diner looking in the window at the man she had once loved and smiled. She had heard that he had opened a diner after Will passed away, but seeing it amazed her. He had accomplished so much. She was about to walk in when she heard two voices walking towards her.
"Okay but seriously how can you say Hemminway isn't the best author ever after that class Rory?" A young boy about eleven or twelve asked?
"Ummm are you kidding I have never been so bored in English class. I kept thinking I was going to fall asleep." Rory answered him rolling her eyes.
"Whatever you say, but I still think you secretly enjoyed it." The boy teased her. Rachel couldn't help but notice that the boy somewhat resembled Luke.
"You are delusional Jess" When the girl spoke his name, Rachel remembered Luke telling her Liz had a son named Jess not long after she had left town. She wondered if that was Luke's nephew.
"Come on I'm hungry. Maybe you can use your puppy dog eyes and get Uncle Luke to give us pie." Rachel's suspicions were confirmed. Jess was Luke's nephew, but who was this Rory?
"Before dinner? Not even I'm that powerful"
"You underestimate your persuasion powers over Uncle Luke. You have daddy's girl stamped on your forehead!" Rory laughed at his accusation. Rachel stood there stunned. "Daddy's girl?" Rachel thought to herself. She didn't understand.
"I guess I do"
"Just hope your mom isn't having a girl this time. There's no way you can compete with a baby" Jess teased her. "A baby?" Rachel thought. She wasn't fully understanding this conversation.
"Please I am planning on milking these puppy dog eyes for at three more years" Rory joked.
"I'm just saying you got lucky with Will being a boy. He may be cute but you still have Uncle Luke wrapped around your finger." Jess laughed.
"Okay I'm officially starving. Lets go" Rory and Jess walked into the Diner. Rachel stood in shock trying to process what she had just heard. "Luke has a daughter?" she asked herself. "Was Will his son? Was he going to have another baby?" She looked inside the diner to see Rory and Jess sitting at the counter eating pie and chatting with Luke. She was beyond confused, but at the same time she understood. She simply wasn't willing to admit that Luke had moved on.
The Diner door opened again pulling Rachel out of her thoughts. A woman walked in with a little boy no older than six in her arms. She had a small baby bump that was just beginning to show. Rachel knew exactly who she was before she even approached Luke. The kiss she placed lovingly on his lips only confirmed her thoughts. That was his wife, the woman who stayed. That was his family inside his diner. She could only watch them now and wonder what might have been through the diner window.
