Madison sucked in a sharp breath as she swiped the thin silver blade across her slender wrist, watching as the crimson liquid poured into the marble sink below and adding yet another scar to the marred flesh on her arm. She was having a rough day and finally turned to the one thing she knew would take her mind off of her horrible life. This is what had happened almost every day for the past ten years. No one knew. No one would ever know about her cruel past or what it had turned her into.
"Maddy, are you ok in there?" her Uncle Severus asked, knocking lightly on the bathroom door.
'As if you care,' she thought to herself before mumbling a quiet, "Be out in a minute."
As soon as she heard his heavy footsteps going back downstair, Madison began cleaning the drying blood off of her wrist and rinsing the sink clean of evidence. She taped a bandage over the fresh wound and put a pink sweat band over the bandage to hide it before looking back in the mirror at her reflection.
What she saw disgusted her. Yes, she was gorgeous with her delicate features, honey blonde hair, blue eyes and creamy skin. She was the object of affection. All guys wanted her; all girls wanted to be her. But all she saw was a traitor. A disgusting excuse for a wizard. All she saw was her father. She had his same facial features, all reminding her of where she came from: A Death Eater who murdered her own mother.
Finally, with a disgusted drunt, she turned away from the spitting image of her father, Dominic Bones, and went downstairs to have dinner with her Uncle.
Madison had been living with Severus Snape ever since her father was locked up. It had just passed the ten year mark last month and even though so much time had passed, she still felt as if it had happened last night. The day that her life changed was burned into her brain forever and she wished with all her heart that she could forget the pain for just one moment. The cutting had eased the pain slightly, but it would never truly take it away.
She sat down at the small dining table across from her Uncle. She could feel his eyes on her as she picked at her food. It was only a matter of time before he asked the question she hated so much that everytime someone asked she wanted to rip their throat out.
"Are you sure you're all right?" Uncle Severus finally asked his niece.
"I'm sure," Madison said, forcing a smile before putting a forkfull of food in her mouth.
Uncle Severus nodded, satisfied. "Are you ready for your final year of school tomorrow?"
Madison made a face."Not really. This summer went by too fast."
"Oh, I'm sure you're excited to see your friends again," he said, looking at a space above Madison's head.
'If only you knew," she thought before nodding.
After dinner was over, Madison trudged slowly up to her room to finish packing her trunk. She tossed shoes and clothes in carelessly, wanting to get everything out of the way so she could crawl into bed and will the nightmares to stay away for just one night even though she knew it would never happen.
