Back on the train
"Ron, where are we?" Hermione asked impatiently
Ron didn't bother answering her, he know she wouldn't hear him. He squeezed her hand reassuringly as he pulled her through the barrier of Platform Nine and three-quarters. He looked around the station; the Hogwarts Express was gleaming in front of him. Pete, the train's driver gave him a thumbs up, Ron nodded his thank you. He then turned and pulled Hermione's ear plugs out of her ears.
"Can you hear me?" he asked
"Yes, what's going on?" Hermione asked in return, tugging on the blind fold she had covering her eyes.
Ron ignored her question and pulled her hand away from her eyes, "Can you see me or anything for that matter?"
"No."
"Ok." Ron started guiding her towards the train. When they got to one of the doors Ron opened it and helped Hermione on board. He then pulled her down the corridor and stopped outside compartment E 17. He let go of her hands.
"Can I take the blind fold off yet? Hermione asked
"No." Ron said, turning around he opened the Compartment quietly and pulled Hermione to stand on the threshold.
"Do you remember what the date is?" Ron asked her
"Yes! And the time. It's the first of September 2000 and it must be around 8am."
"Good."
"Why are you asking me all of this?"
"You can take the blind fold off." Said Ron calmly
Hermione pulled the blind fold off. She was standing on the Hogwarts Express. She looked down at Ron who was on one knee, holding an open red box with a diamond ring glinting in it. Her heart stopped as she stared at him and the ring.
"I know the time is a little off but that doesn't matter much. It's exactly nine years since we met on this train, in this very compartment. I wouldn't trade that day for anything in the world because little did I know at the time I had just met the love of my life, the woman I want to grow old with and one day die with." He took a deep breath before continuing "What I'm trying to ask is, Hermione Jean Granger, will you marry me?"
"Yes!" she shouted without hesitation.
Ron stood up and placed the ring on her finger, both their hands were shaking. Hermione flung her arms around Ron and just cried. She eventually pulled away and wiped her eyes before pulling him into a passionate kiss.
Fifteen minutes later the newly engaged couple climbed off the train. Both couldn't stop smiling and Hermione had barely taken her eyes off her ring. It was stunning; an antique. It was a colourless round and baguette cut. And according to Ron it was made of 18kt white gold.
They stopped in front of Pete.
"Thanks for letting me use the train before the students get here." Ron said
"My pleasure. Congratulations." Pete replied
Hermione and Ron just smiled as they shook Pete's hand.
"So, I guess this is the beginning of the rest of our life." Said Ron, giving Hermione a sidewards glance who was admiring her ring again
"Yeah." She sighed contently
"Are you ready?" Ron asked
Hermione looked up at Ron, "I already have my wedding dress picked out." She replied
Hermione laughed at the shocked look on Ron's face and lead him back to the Muggle world.

A/N: I made up my own compartment number seen as it's not given in the book and I obviously did the same for the train drivers' name. To see a picture of Hermione's ring check my profile.
