Steven quietly inched through the darkened hall and peered through the rail. Three girls sat on the floor in the living room giggling. They were his target. Stealthfully he inched toward the next door. His fingers gently wrapped around the handle and he turned it slowly. Steven had yet to make a sound and he slipped into the darker room beyond the door. Closing the door behind him he stepped into the center of the room.

He stood completely still allowing his eyes to adjust to the moonlight filtering through the window. The room was filled with pink frills. He was in the right place and he knew what he had to do. Taylor had dared him to and after coming this far there was no turning back.

The sound of footsteps on the stairs pushed him into action. He dove under the bed, hidden from view by the lacy dust ruffle. Only a few seconds passed before the light came on in the room. Steven could see three pairs of feet hurrying toward the bed punctuated by girlish laughter. He smiled to himself stifling his own laughter with his hand. He was too excited to move and the light went out relieving some of the building tension. The springs of the bed creaked and the giggles faded to silence.

He peered from his hiding place and up the side of the bed. There was a lone foot dangling over the edge. It was perfect. Steven steadied himself and in a flash his hand shot out firmly grabbing the ankle. Growling viciously he gave the leg a tug. Screams pierced the dark room. Steven retreated under the bed continuing to growl. He curled under the bed where it sagged. No doubt this was where the scared girls were huddled. Using his shoulder he pushed up on the mattress. The yelling grew louder before the terrified girls fled the room

Steven followed and darted down the hall in the other direction seeking the sanctuary of Taylor's room. Once inside he closed the door and smiled at Taylor. His best friend sat on the bed with red cheeks from the laughter he was still holding in. Steven couldn't take it any longer and fell into his sleeping bag on the floor, bursting with laughter. Taylor joined him giving him a shove. Another scream echoed from Taylor's sister and the boys started to cry from the laughter. She was still hollering about the thing growling under her bed. Steven had never before been so proud of himself.
