"Giving up on the reading?"

Sawyer usually welcomed Kate's presence, but not when he'd been humiliated in front of her. More than once. In the course of one day. "Not in the mood," he growled.

Kate glanced at the book and glasses, which Sawyer had placed on the sand beside his chair. "This isn't still about the glasses, is it?"

"This isn't about the glasses," he said mockingly. "I just didn't feel like reading, that's all."

"You know, if you're looking for a new hobby, you could always help them with the raft that you've already got a ticket for," Kate suggested, watching Michael and Jin arguing hotly in different languages over where a certain piece should go.

"I wouldn't want to ruin their system," Sawyer said slowly. "I'd be better off trying to make a radio out of coconuts."

"There aren't any coconuts on the island."

"Then I guess I'm back to arson watch," he smirked.

Kate bent down and picked up the book and glasses. "A Wrinkle in Time," she read. "Isn't this a kids' book?"

"This ain't exactly a library, Freckles. I could reread the bunny book, if it makes you feel better."

She looked confused at that, but instead of saying something about it, she donned the glasses. She squinted, trying to read the back cover of the book. "Now I'm getting a headache," she said.

"Take those off," he told her.

"Are you saying I don't look cute?" Kate smiled. It somehow didn't look right in the glasses.

"You know what I think about that. Take them off." He wasn't sure if he was being playful or not. Something about this reeked of junior high.

Kate finally took the glasses off, then leaned over and placed them on his own face. While she did this, Sawyer took the opportunity to look down her shirt.

"You're smiling," he accused when he looked up at her.

"I am not," said Kate, who was failing miserably at not smiling. "You geek."

Sawyer whipped off the glasses. "I will not be the island geek," he said, using them to point at her in what he hoped to be a threatening manner. He knew it wasn't.

Kate giggled. "Oh, I think you will."
