"So Moony, which do you think sounds more poetic or romantic?"

Remus raised his eyebrows, "This is about Lily, isn't it,".

"Yes, yes its about Evans. Okay so listen." James stood up, lifting a piece of parchment in his right arm and began, waving his left arm around, dramatically.

"Roses are red,

Violets are blue.

Sugar is sweet,

And so are you.

or this, you ready,

Roses are red,

Lillies are white.

If I stop hexing Snape,

Can I go out with you?"

Both of James' arms fell to his side as he completed both poems.

"Well," started Remus, James raising his eyebrows slightly, "To be honest, if you do the second one, you won't stand a chance cause every year you end up doing that one and I don't think it worked! It was amusing but...no, just no. The first one, the original one, is best." James nodded, looking very serious. Remus was right, he would perform the first poem for Lily in the quarters that they shared as Head Boy and Girl. It was their last Valentine's Day at Hogwarts and James was almost desperate. His whole life was dedicated to making Lily go out with him since seven years ago on the Hogwarts Express where he first set eyes upon her.

By the lake at midday...

"Yes James I will go out with you,"

"Oh Merlin thank you! Evans... Lily, thank you, I, thank you!"

Inside Lily smiled. James had got much more mature now he was Head Boy.

James gave a nervous sort of smile as his hands were fiddling with the zipper on his jacket.

"We should go... class starts soon," Lily said but made no move.

"Yeah..." James said vaguely.

Lily reached forward and grasped James' hands and held them in hers. James looked up. His eyes caught Lily's and neither broke the eye contact. Each other's eyes became clearer as their faces came closer. And while staring deep into each other's eyes, they kissed. Short and sweet.

"Thank you," both said at the same time and laughed. While they continued holding hands they slowly walked up to the castle.
