What I've Done.
Lyrics and music by Linkin Park.

In this farewell…
Leaving was the last thing on his mind, the mere thought left a gaping hole in his empty chest. But it was to be done. The only way to make her happy, make her live, keep her alive, was to leave and take everything away with him.
There's no blood, no alibi…
But as he approached her car, his intentions faltered a little, the sureness he had felt before started to edge away. Those chocolate brown eyes, so eager to make him happy, those lips that had seemed to attack him before.
'Cause I've drawn regret…
From the truth of a thousand lies…
"You're not good for me Bella…" The lies spilled easily from his mouth, so many years of practice…
"Don't. Don't do this." She pleaded, her eyes searching his face for an explanation for the truth…..
So let mercy come and wash away
What I've done…
… "And I'll make a promise in return. I promise that this will be the last time you will see me. I won't come back. I won't put you through anything like this again. You can go on with your life without any interference from me. It will be as if I never existed." …..
I'll face myself to cross out what I've become
Erase myself
And let go of what I've done…
As he walked away, he heard her heart shattering sobs, and the steps that followed him, the pained call as she ran, ran as hard as she could, as she tried and stop him from leaving…
Put to rest what you thought of me
Clean this slate…
Start over was what his father said. A clean slate. She could do that, too. Start over as if he never existed. Forgive him maybe, sometime in the far future.
With hands of uncertainty
So let mercy come and wash away
What I've done…
His legs dragged him on, the pained call and the frantic beating of her heart slowly fading as he, too, started to fade. His existence meant nothing without her. This was the end. What he had done.
For what I've done
I start again
A new beginning. The glinting smile, the sweet laugh. His family. Where his heart should have been, an aching throb took its place. His breath came out ragged, pained. Nothing could stop him now.
And whatever pain may come
It ends today
I am forgiving what I've done.
The hard, cool metal resting against his hand…
What I've done…
The metallic feel as it rested on his temple…
Today I am forgiving what I've done.
The final shot. A ringing sound in his ears before everything came to an end…
What I've done.
