"Kevin, people could get hurt."
Ben watched as Kevin's eyes softened at the sight of his cousin. His stomach lurched in an unpleasing manner, but he shrugged it off. It didn't mean anything, it probably meant that Kevin was thinking about the many lives that would be in danger if he didn't hurry and 'fess up already. Suffice to say, there was a chance that he actually grew a little bit out of that villanous stage. Ben's eyes fell on his cousin, watching her take a step back, a weird and confused expression on her face.
He should've known.
"Don't … talk to her like that!"
"I'll talk to her anyway I…"
Ben stopped, his eyes falling. He had gone too far; he shouldn't have spoken to her like that, her of all people. She was just taking that thought in consideration and here he was being sensitive and not hearing what she has to say about their grandpa.
"You're right. I'm sorry Gwen." His emerald-eyed gaze met hers and she gave him a comforting smile.
"I know you're worried about Grandpa." Her eyes met his, warm and comforting.
If it wasn't due to the serious situation they were in, he would crack a smart-ass comment about what she had just said. But he had snapped at her that day, once they found out that their grandfather had gone missing, Gwen was just trying to lighten up the situation, to ease the tension that Ben was feeling and yet Ben was being thin-skinned towards her. And Kevin had to be the one who had to make him realize that.
A scowl placed itself on Ben Tennyson's lips.
Kevin Levin. The supposedly reformed villain that he and Gwen had forgiven, the guy that now has a crush on his cousin Gwen.
It was so damn obvious that he liked her but Ben was blinded by the fact that Grandpa Max was missing that he hadn't been able to acknowledge the scene that was unfolding between the two. He knew that Gwen was just being friendly for the most part (a characteristic of hers that troubled him now and then) for the sake of the people that were being saved due to him accompanying Gwen and him. If he had any other way, Ben would've booted his ass out of the team.
But Gwen had pointed out to Ben that Kevin's support in their gigs was important for finding Grandpa and saving innocent lives that happened to be around at the wrong time.
But it didn't stop him secretly disagreeing. It made him boil with jealousy every time he saw them together. Those little things that Kevin said about Gwen in front of him, his lingering gave whenever she performed some type'a magic trick, or just doing a simple thing that didn't even need a second glance. It didn't bother him before, but now that he thought back on the stuff that happened…it seriously pissed him off.
He liked it when he had Gwen all to himself.
author's note: this is supposed to be just a one-shot. nothing more, nothing else. not sure if should evolve into something more, but i like it so far, even though it's missing a couple parts here and there. what do you think?
