Reckless
1FRICKENgirl
She calls it a crush. Even better, she knows it's a crush. The kind of crush that makes you all giggly and warm inside, borrowing a fantasy or two from romance novels and Spiran soap operas that air every Friday night. In fact, she's so sure that it's just a crush that she writes it down on a piece of paper and burns it in a fire so the remnants can float throughout Spira and everyone will know of her crush.
Except him.
It's always – alwaysalwaysalways – except him. And that could be a good thing or a bad thing. And considering it's just a crush thing, she thinks it's unnecessary for him to have another reason to make fun of her and embarrass her with all his knight in shining machina kind of talk. Besides, he's already taken.
Or, the taker depending on who's really benefiting from the so called 'relationship'.
In a week she knows he'll already have taken the poor girl's heart, and as she's in the middle of planning their wedding night, he'll cut them off. Poof, just like that because he's got this whole reputation of non-commitment. And being young and reckless and an absolute heartbreaker. And that reminds her why she's got just a crush.
Pops thinks she 'oughta settle down because unmarried young girls running around chasing after treasure isn't what he's raised her up to be. And Brother thinks she should die an old, old virgin. Either of which she finds quite unfair because what about her wants, and her needs? And her own desire to be young and reckless and a princess trapped at the top of a sand dune waiting for her knight to slash through the vicious sand worm and take her on a magical chocobo ride into the sunset…
…Or back to her place, where he'll carry her to her room and lower her to the bed with a trail of soft kisses down her face, caressing her skin and they'll make –
– crush. Make-crush.
She sighs, her hands resting on her chest as she leans back and lies on the stone rail, her eyes focused on the flow of water underneath the bridge. Behind her, she can hear the rocks moving and the lightning crackling as the workers begin to leave the temple. She knows he'll leave shortly too. He has a date tonight.
Well, he thinks he does.
So what if this time her note wasn't thrown into the flames? So what if this time her note was delivered to a certain pretty girl and signed off in his name with "I'm sorry"s and "It's not you, it's me." It was bound to happen sooner or later. Crushes aren't things that are meant to last long anyway.
She knows she'll get over it eventually. Knows she has to. Because putting your emotions on the line to a heartbreaker, is too reckless of a thing for her to do.
