Alarms blared and his radio went wild as Blaze pulled out of his dive. The world spun as he once again threw his F-22 into a tight roll, hoping to throw the missiles trailing him to lose their track. His hopes were realized as he saw them go streaking past his cockpit, leaving a trail of smoke behind. He immediately rose into firing position and fired a line of machine gun ammo into the rear of an enemy plane before breaking off again. A voice came over his radio. "Nice kill, Blaze!" It was Nagase, his wingman; or wing-woman he supposed.
"Grimm! Come cover my six o' clock!"
"Roger. I'm on my way." His other two wingmen, Captain Snow and Grimm came over the radio as well. They were currently attacking from the western side of the battlefront as him and Nagase attacked head-on. They were fighting over Area B7R in old Belkan territory. This site, known as the Round Table, had seen several dogfights during the Belkan War and had been the birthplace of the Demon Lord of the Round Table. The legends claimed that he had single-handedly averted a worldwide catastrophe and dismantled a mysterious organization known as A World With No Boundaries. Since then, however, the area had lain dormant; no aircraft were allowed to fly the skies over B7R after the Treaty of Lumen was signed. Of course, that hadn't stopped the once-again reborn Belkan Army from using it to launch a surprise attack on Osea.
"Blaze, watch out! Enemy on your tail." Nagase's warning brought him back to the present, right before she took the enemy down with a sidewinder missle. Sighing, he wished that they wouldn't worry about him so much. Since Megalith was destroyed, no enemy had scared him and his senses were always razor sharp. Well, almost always. Lately, he had been distracted and in a dogfight, that meant death by fireball. Still, he was more than a match for these pilots. With the help of the Osean Air Force, they were slowly pushing the enemy planes into a retreat.
"All planes, fall back! The Demons of Razgriz are too strong!"
I'm taking a short break from Fall of Altea to give my brain a rest. So here's an ace combat story instead!
He sighed again. He'd known that the order would come out soon. It wasn't that he was hoping to keep fighting; in fact he was glad that this battle was over; but he was so tired. "Razgriz, fall back. Osea can handle it from here," he ordered. As his wingmen fell into the familiar v-formation, he couldn't help but feel a glow of satisfaction at seeing them all leaving the battle alive, safe, and unharmed. As they flew, however, his content feeling disappeared and a strange longing came over him. He looked out over the Round Table and ignored his squadron's chatter. He longed to meet the Demon Lord again. He'd searched for months following the war with Yuktobania, but to no avail. The Belkan War had ended when he was only four years old but he still remembered the man who had taken him in and cared for him when his parents were killed.
"Blaze? Are you ok?" Nagase asked. She sounded concerned. That wasn't surprising he supposed, considering they were engaged now. He still had to force himself to answer, though.
"Yeah. Yeah I'm ok." He could tell by her silence that she wasn't convinced but nobody pressed the issue any more.
Quietly, he whispered to himself. "Cipher. Where are you?"
Ok I'm gonna be honest here. I'm not entirely sure why I wrote this. I kinda just thought it out as I went along sooo...yeah. Review anyway though so that I can learns all the things about the writings!
