Once upon a time, there was a boy and girl.

They had never known each other until they came across each other one fateful summer. It seemed to everybody, including them, they were meant to spend the rest of their lives together. But fate didn't seem to agree.

One night, they were driving home from the local lake in their hometown. It had been very beautiful that night, one of many they had already shared in the short time they'd known each other.

They stopped at an empty intersection and he tightened his arm around her, just taking in the moment.

"I love you, beautiful. More than anything," he told her.

"You're my everything and I love you so much, handsome," she replied, gazing into his eyes.

He leaned in to kiss her, but was stopped short by an incoming car. It slammed into the front of his car so fast, her head snapped back and she was knocked out upon impact.

Not taking notice of his own injuries and his unconscious, heavily bleeding girl pinned in the seat beside him, anger boiled in his blood. For vengeance.

He pulled his bleeding self out of the driver's seat and made his way to the other driver, who was relatively unscathed and was complaining about his car's damage into his phone. He tapped the driver on the shoulder who didn't move. He swung him around and slugged him across the face in the nose.

"YOU SON OF A BITCH!" He punched him again with enough force to knock him down and they both heard a loud crack of his nose.

"Jesus Christ man, you broke my damn nose!" the man said underneath him, clutching his phone in one hand and his nose in the other one.

"I don't give a damn! Call 911 on that damned cell phone of yours before she dies, goddamnit!" Shaking, he managed to get his phone out and dial obediently.

A short time later, the boy was in an ambulance next to her, both of them strapped to a gurney. She was still unconscious. They worked tirelessly on him, seeming to ignore her completely.

"DAMMIT, SAVE HER NOT ME!" he yelled over and over again at the EMTs. He raged on before they involuntarily turned their attention to her and sedated him.

As their focus to save her grew more intense, they didn't even notice his heart beat slowly decreasing. As her life rate grew stronger, his heart bled out on the floor of the ambulance and his eyes slowly closed for the last time.

But his heart was wide open.
