[It's been a while, but it's worth it! Enjoy! -Silver]

.

I suppose people long for revenge? I guess that's normal, right? But to have the power over a human soul is truly frightening. That's why many people like to think Hell Girl does not exist. Well, I know first hand that she does.

I swore I would atone for my sins. That begins today.

"Ju-San? Have you seen my ring?" Miyako shouted from inside the house. "I can't seem to find it anywhere!"

This is not what I had in mind.

"No, Miyako!" I shouted from the back yard. I shrugged, figuring I had to start one way or another.

I crawled around on my hands and knees, looking for the ring. The dirt was getting under my nails and I could feel the hot summer sun beating down on the back of my neck. I cringed when I saw a large, hairy spider crouched on the ground next to my hand. I instinctively jumped back.

WHAT THE HELL? This sort of spider don't even live anywhere near this region! Oh, whatever. What sort of ring was it again…?

"Miyako!" I shouted to my cousin, still inside the house. "What did it look like?"

"It was a sapphire on a sliver band! My boyfriend gave it to me; I really need to find it!"

Damn, that sounds expensive… but is it really worth getting this close to those hairy little beasts?

"Oh!" I knocked my head on the bottom of the picnic table when I began to stand up. I turned around to see my younger cousin, Hana, who is also Miyako's younger sister, sitting on the picnic table bench a few feet behind me. She looked smug with her black hair pulled into a loose bun on her head. I pulled my own brown hair into a high ponytail.

"Damnit, Hana. You could at least try to help find your sister's ring. You know it's really important to her." I rubbed the dirt from my face. Gardening and then searching for a ring by crawling on all fours in the dirt. No way am I getting out of this one clean.

Hana stood, still looking pleased with herself. She was clean. Lucky. She strayed from her spot on the bench back to the house, her kaki shorts pressed and stainless. The sun was beginning to set in shades of pink and violet.

Best be heading in. It doesn't make much sense to be searching from a ring after dark.

Ten minutes later (and a lot of crying from Miyako later) I was walking up the stairs to the bathroom so I could finally have that shower I had been dreaming of since early in the afternoon. I paused as I walked past Hanna's room. I knocked on the door and, without opening it, began to talk to Hana, who I thought was locked in her room as usual.

"Hana, I'm leaving to go home tomorrow. I just thought you should know that."

No response.

I opened the door a crack. As I entered the teal-green room I paused to admire the pop group posters on the wall. Personally I was more into rock groups, but the posters remained interesting none-the-less.

I walked over to her dresser and saw a box on her night stand, opened just a crack. I almost had a heart attack as a large, hairy spider, similar to the one I had seen before, jumped out of the box. I could have sworn it lunged for me and I moved out of the way just in time. I really don't like spiders. I stepped on it. Real smooth. My arm went flailing and I knocked over the box onto the floor.

…And now I have spider guts on my feet… ugh…

The box had opened and next to it, on the floor, sat a sapphire ring set on a silver band with a very large, black spider mark on the face of the gem…
