The Good Die Young

Degrassi/Arrow Crossover

Summary: Drew and Adam had a cousin named Tommy Merlyn. He was the son of their mother's older sister. An aunt who was the first person Drew ever lost.

Author's Note: So Tommy was twenty seven or twenty eight when he died. Around ten years older than Drew and eleven years older than Adam.

"Drew? Who's the guy in that picture?" Clare Edwards asked, picking up the photo. In it, there was a ten year old Drew, all gangly with long limbs and messy hair, mouth open wide with laughter. Next to him sat a young man with dark hair that looked so soft and the brightest grey eyes imaginable. His smile was warm even through the photo and he wore a fitted blue tee-shirt and black jeans, bare feet in the water.

Drew swallowed hard, taking the photo from her with a smile. "That is—-was my cousin Tommy. Tommy Merlyn. His mother was my mom's sister. Her name was Rebecca. Tommy used to spend a few weeks out of the summer with us and try and visit on holidays. His dad didn't pay much attention to him after Aunt Rebecca's death."

Clare noticed Drew's use of the word was and winced. "What happened to him, if you don't mind me asking?"

The teenage boy smiled a bit, shaking his head proudly. "I don't mind. There was an…explosion. Something happened in the glades and Tommy went in to get this woman he loved out of there. He freed her, but ended up getting trapped himself. He died a hero. A few months before…." He trailed off, the wounds of Adam's death still too fresh to talk about.

"What was he like?" She asked, changing the subject as she sat down on his bed beside of him, tilting her head to gaze up at him curiously.

Drew laughed. "He was amazing. Just…a really good guy. He was rich because of his father, but he didn't really act like it, you know? He'd run outside with me when I was eight, climb the trees. And he used to talk a lot about this girl he considered a little sister. Her name was Thea and she is his best friend's baby sister. He was a lot like his mother. At least that's what mom always told Adam and I. He was the one who told Adam to be true to himself. That's when Adam became Adam. He just..he had a lot of love in his heart."

Clare swallowed at that, blinking back tears as she thought of Tommy, of Cam, of that kid, JT that her sister, Darcy had known, of….Adam. "I guess it's true what they say." She murmured, staring at Tommy's picture.

At her boyfriend's questioning look, she said, "That the good die young." And as Drew's eyes filled with tears, she wrapped her arms around him, holding him close.
