They both knew, and oddly enough it brought them closer
It had been a month since Clarke had disappeared when the Grounders showed up to talk, Lexa leading the group. When Kane explained to them Clarke was gone.
Lexa looked at him
It was a subtle but at the same time so loud. When the talks began the two of them worked well, it was nothing like what they both had with Clarke, but still the two of them could negotiate like no one had seen before. Over the 5 months they became friends.
But they never said it.
They knew if they did it would be different. It was an unspoken promise, they were the only two who understood what they were going through. She dragged him away from bottles when he went in too deep and he pulled her back when she let her emotions get the best of her in the fighting ring. No one else had figured out how he felt, but she knew. She knew that look in his eyes. It's what she saw everyday. Then one day she came back.
Bellamy looked at Lexa.
He saw past her stoic nature and saw relief and anger and love. He saw her hold herself back from throwing herself at the blonde. He saw it all.
Lexa looked at Bellamy.
Anger and disbelief flashed past his eyes when she first walked in. Then hurt and sadness, then acceptance and love, but not for Clarke. What Lexa didn't see was.
Clarke was looking at Lexa.
He saw it first and maybe in a way he always knew, it was never him and he had to accept that. He did. He had learned to love Lexa, she was his rock while the world around then crashed and burned. He wanted nothing more than for her to be happy, and he accepted it all.
Clarke ran at Lexa.
It was a shock as she had been so consumed with watching her friend but everything melted away when she touched her. Clarke said nothing and maybe that was best. Better to leave it all for another time.
Clarke knew
She had always known but she pushed it aside and pretended to not see it, but she did. She felt Lexa tense when they heard Bellamy's retreating foot steps. They way she whispered thank you in her native tongue as he did.
Lexa found him.
Hours later they sat by a fire and said nothing. The void in the air around them was new. It was something that felt uncomfortable and out of place. They never said it. Because they knew when they did, they would lose it all. It felt like they did.
He grabbed her hand.
It had been resting on the log beside him and when his cold hand landed over her's Lexa almost collapsed. The crackling of the fire seemed to fade away and she understood before he spoke what he was saying.
"It was never our choice, it was her's. You had nothing to do with it."
And they sat there, talking and laughing and in a way healing. She was back and they were still friends. Nothing changed but the seasons, the years, the wedding band on Lexa and Clarkes fingers and the friendship between two once heartbroken and lost leaders, which only grew stronger.
Okay so I'm a hard core Bellarke shipper but this was fun as hell to write. I had never really seen Bellay and Lexa in any fanfics together and really they seem to be going through the same things, why can't they be friends, like stop ship wars, make bropts out of the two rivals. Reviews are very much welcome as I kinda need to know if I should write a sequel, maybe about Clexa's wedding day. Anyway thanks for taking the time to read this. I hope life is going as planned for you and that your otp kisses.
