"I don't really like cupcakes." Said I breaking the silence that was between us. She looked up and stared blankly at me. She didn't look like she was going to say anything. A hint from those little tired yellow eyes and her sad little baby face. She is younger than me anyways but I kind of feel like she way older, considering the circumstances. It wasn't all like this after all. I tried not to doze off so I continued my sentence. "They taste awful and the looks are very… muddish and slimy. Although I kinda wish I can taste it again." She didn't respond and turned down her head again. Clementine's behavior is really peculiar toady. Usually I'm the one who sat there, sulky and silent, thinking if we were ever going to find our parents. And if we were, where do we head to? What can we defend ourselves with, a hammer? A twelve year boy and an eight year old girl going around, searching for our parents, in an apocalypse (not to mention the real people)! It's crazy! But maybe she isn't thinking about that. Maybe it was THAT day. I tried to open my mouth to ask her why the silent but she interrupted me. "Why cupcakes? Why not other foods like vegetables, potatoes, chocolate…" " I don't know. Maybe it was because of your eyes that reminded me of yellow cupcakes. Or your ugliness."

"HEY!"

"What?"

"I'm not ugly!" She hit me on the leg. "OW, I was just kidding!" I laughed. Clem then gave me a playful smile. I did it, I told myself. You got to remember these small fun times because they're not going to last that long. When was the last time we bonded with each other like this? Right now it feels like centuries. I checked the tree house's window. You know, for any activity. I looked at the woods. Nothing yet but I know there are lurking there, somewhere in the shadows. I checked the streets on my right. Nothing but abandoned cars (or at least they didn't attended to abandon them.). I sat back down and looked at Clem. She wore her favorite outdoor cloths. Even though it was white, she still loved them. It wasn't long sleeved and it is starting to get chilly out here. She's also wearing that hat that Dad gave to her before they left to Savannah. The hammer is sitting next to her so if anything happens she can just grab it. That walkie-talkie is still within her hands, looking at it hoping for Mom and Dad to use. She does this, talk to it pretending it's Mom and Dad talking to her back. The other walkie-talkie is in the house on top of the kitchen tables. I considered getting it for me to use whenever Clem and I get lost or something, but since there's Sandra there… "Hey Clem," I said "Do you wanna go out for a walk in the woods?" She looked at me with eager eyes. I knew she was bored just sitting here. "Can we?" She asked. "Sure." I replied.

"But what about the monsters?"

"It should be fine. As long as we don't go too far."

She nodded at me with a smile. "But there is a catch," I said "You always have to stay near me, okay?" She answered, "Okay! I promise!"

We stood up and she headed down the ladder. I picked up the hammer that was next to her and I climbed down the ladder. Is this a good idea, I thought. It should be fine said the devil that was next to my shoulder. She waited for me by the fences. I gave her a boost up and I followed after her.
