Diane and Kurt had gone to bed early after their dinner of anything that they could scrape together from the refrigerator. Leftovers from the past few days of takeout were now in the garbage cans and a shopping list was already sitting on the kitchen counter for Diane to take in the morning. The conversation was lacking all night and they, silently, decided that they would be quiet for the rest of the evening and just enjoy each other's company. They were now sitting quietly reading their books. Diane had a romance novel that she had been meaning to finish for about a solid three months and Kurt was enveloped in some reports that some students had written, "Effects on Gun Performance."

"Kurt, are we falling into a rut?" Diane asked dropping her book into her lap and taking off her glasses. This had been the third night in a row of left overs, going to bed early, and no sex whatsoever just reading their own individual books on their opposite sides of the bed. It isn't the no sex part that bothers her, well it bothers her a little bit, but it is the lack of communication that they had gotten pretty good at.

"Kurt. Stop," Diane said pushing against his chest trying to get him off. She wanted to talk about their problem not cover it up with sex; even though sex would be nice.

"Diane, the rut is just your imagination. We just need to spruce things up a bit," Kurt placed his hand on her waist, making her night dress ride up a bit.

"How are we going to do that, Casanova?" Diane asked slapping his hand away from her waist. She truly didn't mind his hand being there, but he needed to know that she was completely serious about the conversation of their rut that they had suddenly fallen into.

"Come on, Di. Don't be difficult. How about a game or something?" Kurt asked taking her hands with one hand and placing his other hand back on her waist again.

"Is this how you pick up all the ladies? By pinning them down?" Diane joked as she tried to wriggle out of his grip.

"No, my college days I had some of the best pick-up lines ever," Kurt said backing off and letting her hands go.

"I highly doubt that," Diane said putting one hand on his shoulder and her knee on his hip, this gave her enough leverage to flip him so she was straddling him to the bed.

"Are your legs fighting? Don't worry. I can keep them apart," Kurt said before sitting up to meet her lips.

"That was pretty good," Diane said before she dipped back down to meet Kurt's lips, "but I bet I could do better."

"We'll see about that."
