So, this is my first fanfic. Or my first anything, really. I thought of this last summer, when I broke my broke my foot, and the next day went out to buy Twilight. With all the doctor's visits over the next couple months, and my new obsession... I started daydreaming, and this is what came out of it. Enjoy!
Disclaimer: I am not Stephenie Meyer, and I don't own the characters.
Reviviscence
I braced myself for the barrage and pushed open the door.
Scents of blood filled my nose, racing pulses echoed in my ears.
And the voices, so concentrated in this little room.
Oh, it hurts, it hurts!
What's taking them so long? I've been here ten minutes...
I wonder what he'll say today. Not the same old thing...
Whoa, look at that guy! I hardly feel it anymore...
And beside me, nothing. Only silence from the mind of the girl I helped, the one mind I truly wanted to hear.
Bella limped and shuffled, glowering and grumbling about the need to visit the hospital again. I smiled, having to agree. Carlisle could have checked her broken leg quietly at home, it would be simple to acquire everything necessary. But for the sake of Charlie and the town, hospital visits were needed.
I half-carried her to the desk of a receptionist busy shaping her nails. "Bella Swan," I quietly told her. She hardly looked up, just nodded us to the chairs arranged around the waiting area.
I quickly scanned the room. Over there, in the corner, there weren't too many people. Dragging my groaning life beside me, I made our way over.
"Edward, really," she moaned as I set her in the farthest chair from the offending thoughts. "Why do we have to do this? Seriously, it's not that important!"
"I know, love, I know." I sat next to her and took her hand, caressing it, trying to calm her. "Carlisle thinks your cast should be coming off soon, so we won't have to do this much longer."
She looked up at me, her beautiful face downcast. "But, Edward!" Then her eyes lit up in the most perfect way, showing she had just thought of something. "You know, we don't need to do this anymore. And the cast could come off sooner..."
She wanted me to change her. Hadn't we gone over this enough already?
"No, Bella," I whispered, kissing the top of her head, pausing to inhale her sweet, torturing fragrance. I smiled, hearing her heart speed up. Then I took her chin in my hand, gazing into her now crestfallen eyes. She knew my answer, but she kept bringing it up anyway. "We've been over this."
Sighing and trying to look away, she mumbled, too low for human ears, "Stupid vampire. It's not fair. It's not." I fought a smile, letting her turn away.
"Bella Swan?" a nurse called. As I lifted Bella from her chair and helped her to shuffle across the room, I heard the nurse's thoughts, What a sweet boyfriend she has. If only there were more like that out there...
I glanced up to see the young woman smiling at us before turning to lead the way down the hall. Once more I kissed Bella's hair before helping her to follow, smiling to myself as I listened to her familiar heart.
