A/N: This came about thinking about how Uncle Ben affects this version of Spidey. I hope you enjoy. Thanks for reading and reviewing if you do.
Summary: "You know he told me once... with great power comes great responsibility." post Avengers 4, when Peter goes back home after Thanos has been defeated.
SPIDER-MAN: PETER PARKER
His bag thuds as it hits the floor when he finally arrives home. He looks around wide eyed, he should be at peace being home but his mind is back on the battlefield. His thoughts are consumed with the fact that he died, returned and so many others didn't.
"Peter?" He doesn't recognise her voice at first, the sound of his name comes out like a croak, as if she has been strangled... by grief.
He's only ever heard her sound like that once before.
"Peter!" May runs towards him throwing her arms around him.
"I didn't know if you were alive, I tried calling Pepper but the lines were dead, I thought you were dead... I thought I had lost you as well." The words spill out of her followed by tears. When she pulls back she holds his face in her hands.
"If I had, I didn't... I couldn't..." She embraces him again. They stay like this for a while, May crying while Peter silently holding her. After a while they move over to the couch.
She reaches over and grasps his hand.
"Why... how did you end up on that ship?" She finally asks the question Peter had known was coming.
"Because it was the right thing to do." Speaking for the first time since he came home. May smiles through the tears soaking her cheeks and she lets her hands fall to her sides.
"You're just like him." She says softly and Peter swallows, his eyes finally narrowing to focus on her.
"Uncle Ben?"
"Yes."
Peter smiles to himself. Fighting along side Tony Stark had been like meeting your favourite rock star and then they invite you on stage to sing a song with them but Uncle Ben had always been and will always be the man Peter looks to for guidance even though he isn't here any longer, the man that Peter would always want to make proud.
"You know he told me once... with great power comes great responsibility." Peter looks to May. Those are the words he lives by, the guidance Uncle Ben gave him that he never forgets.
"He would be so proud of you."
For the first time since returning tears fall from his eyes. May embraces him again this time Peter holds onto her as tight as she did moments earlier.
"I don't know where to go from here." He cries into her shoulder.
So much has been lost.
"Oh Peter." She pulls away and smiles once more.
"You continue to do the right thing, continue to live by those words. Continue to be the good person that you always have been." She says to him.
Peter reaches for his Aunt once more and hugs her again. He stares out the window and sees the sun rising over New York.
The world has changed once more but his desire to do the right thing, to help people remains unchanged. He isn't completely sure of what that path will look like anymore but he knows no matter how many times he gets beaten down, no matter how dark the world becomes he will always be there.
To help others.
He is Peter Parker.
