John stumbled out of bed and into the living room, putting on the kettle and plopping some teabags into two red mugs. He and Sherlock had been up all night running around London catching a criminal and John knew his obviously exhausted friend would be thankful for the caffeine. Even though they had caught the thief, they had only got home at 4 am and it was already 7. Military training taught John to survive on small amounts of sleep. John had thought he had heard his friend pacing in the night but it must have been a figment of his imagination because Sherlock was in his pajamas and was asleep on the sofa cuddling the Union Jack cushion to his chest and very faintly mumbling about setting cats on fire. Same old Sherlock. But by the time the kettle had boiled, Sherlock was already awake.
"Hey, buddy." John said quietly "You alright?"
A sleepy Sherlock nodded and rubbed his eyes with his hands. His black curls looked poofier than normal and his grey eyes were ringed with purple.
"Thanks." said Sherlock, accepting the tea with open hands.
"Do you want to do anything today or do you just want to sleep?"
"Can't." Sherlock replied "Bad dreams."
"We could watch a movie." suggested John.
"No more Bond, please. That is the only thing that could send me to sleep."
"OK. No Bond. What do you suggest?"
"There is...nah you wouldn't like it..."
"Why wouldn't I like it?"
"One, it's from the 80's, the time period I grew up in and that you personally hate. Two, it's a sci- fi film and after we both read 'The Lost World' by Arthur Conan Doyle, you said you hated sci-fi"
"I don't hate all sci-fis. But that book was terrible."
"Yeah. No plotline whatsoever. How did that terrible author get knighted?"
John shrugged. "How did you almost get knighted?"
"So will you watch with me?"
"Sure."
Sherlock, now fully awake darted over to a drawer in the kitchen. He pulled out a metal tin.
"My limited edition Back to the Future trilogy box set. Mycroft can get some great presents."
Sherlock slipped the DVD into the tray and pushed it in. He bounded back onto the sofa, picked up the cushion and squeezed it surprisingly hard for someone so skinny. He grinned at John. The DVD began to play.
...
Two hours and many movie quotes later, John and Sherlock were still sat on the sofa. John's mouth was open in surprise and Sherlock was still grinning.
"That...was...amazing." said John.
"I knew you would love It." laughed Sherlock
And all was well at Baker Street.
