Chapter 1: A Chance Encounter

Donna stared out her large kitchen window, it was always raining in Chiswick. She felt like she had missed something big within the last months, her mother reacted to her differently and her grandfather never got away from the telescope. Everything had changed since Donna had lost her memory.

Her mother said it was from a fall but Donna never believed anything her mum said. Everything had changed. She met a nice man by the name of Shaun Temple and they got married. Life was going great until they divorced a month ago. They had only been together for six months.

Everyone said Donna was impulsive and they weren't lying. For no particular reason, she picked up her keys and ventured out into the rain. In the car she just drove until she made it to the city centre. After parking her car clumsily and yelling at a truck driver, she went for a walk down the street. Rain pelted her and the busy people around her but she didn't mind, she just kept walking.

She could hear a faint whirring noise from around the corner, though no one else seemed affected. It was followed by angry shouting and smoke, Donna walked to the corner to see if she could help. As she turned the brick-walled corner, she came face-to-face with a handsome young man. He was wearing brown pinstriped trousers, a light blue shirt and a brown patterned tie.

The Doctor apologised before looking her right in the eye and jumping back in fright. He tripped over himself and fell with a thud to the ground. Donna rushed over to help him up.

"You all right mate?" She asked with an outstretched hand. He shuffled to his feet nodding and blushing furiously. "Eh! Tripping over happens to the best of us. All that smoke and shouting I thought something exploded!" Donna laughed. "Did your car break down or something?"

The man was lost for words, gathering up the strength to talk to her, he smiled, "Yeah, something like that. I'm John, by the way, John Smith." He outstretched his hand.

Donna kindly shook it, "Donna... Donna Noble. John you are soaking wet I'll give you a lift home, where do you live?"

"Actually Mrs. Noble I just arrived in town today I don't live anyway yet." He mumbled pathetically.

"Well it's Ms. Noble for a start but please just call me Donna and follow me, don't want you catching the flu now do we?"

Donna took the Doctor back to her house, letting him dry off she went to put some tea on. "So John..." She asked from the kitchen, "What brings you to Chiswick?"

"I came looking for a friend but she didn't remember me so I just thought I'd stay for a while." He replied.

"An ex?"

"Something like that. Um... What should I-I do ab-bout my... umm... well... I don't want... to get water everywhere..."

"Where should you get changed? Down the hall, second door on the right." Donna instructed as she brought the Doctor a tea. "Did you bring a change of clothes?"

The Doctor was bright red now. "N-no, I left them in my... car, and m-m-my c-car is at-t the mechan-nics." He was shaking violently now.

"John, are you okay?" Donna asked.

The Doctor fell to the ground cold. He hardly moved as Donna pulled him near. "You're very red John. I'll take you so you can rest."
