Camouflage
Eli quickly tries to hide the bottle of hooch as James ambles into his quarters unannounced, but of course she notices.
"Watcha got there," she pokes him in the arm.
"Ouch! Nothing."
"You're a lousy liar, Eli. Spill."
Eli blushes and shows her the bottle with the square label and the big red cross.
James' eyes widen.
"Medicinal hooch? You got yourself a bottle of medicinal hooch? Are you nuts? That stuff will make your guts explode!"
"No no no no no," Eli shakes his head. "It's for cleaning kino lenses, I swear!"
"Yeah, right," James snorts and holds out her hand. Eli gives her the bottle and James whistles through her teeth. "You know that TJ will play football with your head, right?"
Eli looks like he's about to cry.
"I always used the normal hooch, but then I heard Dunning say something about the superior cleaning power of the medicinal stuff, soooo…"
"Why don't you just ask Brody to make some for you, instead of nabbing infirmary-grade hooch?"
Eli shrugs. "Way to make me feel stupid, Vanessa. Mission accomplished."
James surreptitiously peels the label off the bottle and hands the container back to him.
Eli stares at the now-plain bottle and grins. "Oh. Thanks."
James gets up and gives him a noogie. "Anytime."
Eli winces and watches her leave. He loves Vanessa as a friend, but as a rule of thumb he has the deepest respect for people toting guns and lobbing grenades. Still, he can't help but smile as he returns to his task of cleaning kino lenses with the newly camouflaged pilfered hooch.
