A Night Too Real

A young crimson moon has risen

Over a blood soaked land

A tribute to all the shinobi

Whose life tonight will end.

...

An Anbu team had a mission

To break into foreign land

Infiltrate enemy fortress

Leave no one alive to stand.

...

Anbu missions were like dreams

A blur of blood steel and sweat

The victim's faces fade away

Their screams easy to forget

...

A ninja's body moves itself

No doubts, no regret

The only proof it was no dream

A bloody mask – red and wet

...

But tonight Kakashi dreaded

The massacre just seemed too real

He could not play God tonight

He was simply too sober to kill.

...

He craved for the teams support

A friendly face to ease this task

But his comrades all seemed cold

Their faces hidden by a mask

...

He could feel enemy chakra

As they were soon drawing near

And once the first scream rang

Kakashi was gripped by fear

...

He knew well the sight of battle

So many before him died

But there he stood, staring blankly

Eyes wide open, horrified

...

As Kakashi stood confused

A foe was moving in the shade

Then it jumped, drew a weapon

And flesh was pierced by a blade

...

A painful cry filled the room

But it was not Kakashi's scream

The foe was now on the ground

Itachi standing over him

...

Itachi removed his Anbu mask

(A deed no one should ever do)

And put a hand on his friend, saying

"Calm down, sempai, we're with you."

...

Kakashi dropped his own wet mask

Sweat soaked, it appears

But Kakashi faintly wondered

Was it really sweat … or tears?

...

He suddenly felt renewed

Itachi's words seemed to heal

Kakashi drew his own katana

- He had a mission to fulfill -
