Chapter one

Real Estate Business

"Attention! Attention! All passengers will now depart at Manhattan!"

The train lurched to a stop as Tobias stood up from his seat.

"Well now, I guess I will see you later then," Rover meowed as some passengers left the train. The green door slid back into place and Tobias got his first good look at Manhattan. There were lots of buildings and the roads were black and gray with asphalt.

"Hello! Hello!" said a voice from somewhere. "I am Tom Nook, I hope you…"

"It's okay," Tobias reassured him, "I've moved before. I am told that you are the brother of John Nook?"

"Yes, yes, that is true. Have you brought money with you?" asked the nervous raccoon, he usually did not stray from the order of things. "There are four human houses here. One is the basic one room house. The second has a second story and a basement, the third has two rooms on the ground floor, a second story, and a basement, and the fourth has four rooms on the ground floor, a second floor, a basement, and an attic. Which one would you prefer?"

"How much will the fourth be?" questioned Tobias.

"About 300,000,000 bells," replied the businessman.

"Here you are," said Tobias as he handed over the bag of bells. His artist days in London had paid off, quite literally.

"Here is your key, I presume that you are coming from Europe, where the houses are grouped together in a square," the addressee nodded his head to show that statement was true. "Well here in America," Tom continued, "different towns do things different ways, in Florida there is only one house for humans, and all occupants must share, but in New York, to be specific, Manhattan, there are four human houses, but they are dispersed throughout the town. As most of the World is made up of animals, and is just recently being populated by humans coming from the lunar base, we are not yet used to man, and so some of the animals you meet may be nervous, but rest assured that as long as I live here in Manhattan, all human newcomers will be safe. Now run along, your house is near the sea. Oh and make sure to tell Tortimer of your arrival, I am almost certain he will be interested in the first human to set foot in Manhattan, the past aside, of course."

Tobias was very eager to see his new house, he had worked with John, and the Nook family was not one to disappoint…
