Her breathing was warm against his chest as she softly mumbled inarticulately in her sleep. Danny gently wrapped a curl around his finger. It was an action that soothed both him and Sam. The silky texture slid away from his calloused hands easily. It was like being kissed by the wind. His chest tightened as she stirred and pressed into his bare chest. But her hands were fisting now, her breathing had increased rapidly, and then it happened. She began to scream.

"Shit." He muttered under his breath as he wrapped her up in his arms. She struggled, kicking and screaming, the sheets getting tangled between her legs. Her body was contorting and she was gasping for air.

"Sam, c'mon Sam. Wake up. Wake up for me. I'm right here. It was just a dream."

Her eyes shot open as she stilled. She was still trying to pull away from him. Her eyes anxiously examined the room until she looked back at him. Her breathing was slowly returning to normal. Her cheeks were wet as silent tears streaked her flushed face.

"Sweetheart, it was just a nightmare. You're okay. You're safe."

She nodded and her eyelids were slowly dropping. Her lilac eyes no longer looked frightened. Her body relaxed into its natural position against him. He sighed and pushed one hand through his raven hair, the other was held tightly against Sam's waist.

They were getting worse. Three nights this week she had been woken up by her own horror. She never wanted to talk about what she saw. Danny didn't know what to do with her. She was the one force that kept him tied to this earth and she was slipping away. He tucked his head into his chest and inhaled her scent. She was soft and he placed her against his chest so that she was lying on top of him. He wrapped his arms around her and held her there, his heart immediately finding solace as he felt her pulse flutter against him. Something dark was coming. Something so evil he was worried that not even he could stop it.
