"Rangiku! Rangiku!"

The familiar chirpy voice of Gin never failed to jolt Rangiku out of her sleep, no matter how deep in her sleep she was.

Getting up sleepily and rubbing her beautiful ash grey eyes, Rangiku sat up on her straw mattress. Clutching the little toy kitten that Gin had made for her using unwwanted cloth that he found lying on the floor in her minute hands, Rangiku dragged her feet out of the straw hut that she and Gin shared.

Squinting her eyes and shielding it from the harsh rays of the sun, Rangiku gazed at Gin with a tiny smile on her face. He was happy, and so was she. However, how long would this happiness last?

"I was digging in the cave down by the nearby waterfall and I found these."

Gin opened his tightly clutched fists to reveal two beautiful gemstones-a breathtaking emerald and a mesmerising ash-grey quartz crystal. Rangiku felt a breath of air being stolen away from her as she gasped in awe. Her ivory toned fingers reached out and attempted to touch the glistening gemstones.

Suddenly, Gin pulled back the gemstones and clutched them tightly. Rangiku was taken aback and casted Gin a look of confusion. Gin frowned and said " No! Don't touch them!"

Upon hearing that sentence, tears started streaming out of Rangiku's eyes. She did not expect such a hurtful sentence to come out of Gin's mouth. She was just about to turn around and head back into the hut when Gin stopped her.

"You can't touch them. You'll get your hand dirty because they are still covered with dirt. I haven't washed them yet."

Gin gazed at Rangiku and smiled. She stood there clutching her toy kitten tighter than ever, trying to hold back the tears that were streaming out of her eyes.

"So that's when and why i started to love you, huh?"

Rangiku thought to herself as she opened her fist to reveal a majestic emerald gemstone. It was the one that he had given to her. He took the quartz while she took the emerald.

"Here!"

Gin smiled cheerily as he forced the emerald into Rangiku's minute palms. He then waved the quartz crystal in her face and held it in his own palms.

"The emerald represent my eyes while the the quartz crystal represents yours. See?"

Gin said while pointing to his own set of emerald green eyes.

"It's so rare that he opens his eyes. Yet, he always does it for me." Rangiku said with a smile.

"These crystals represent our eyes. The two stones signify that no matter where two of us may be, we will always have our eye on each other, Watching each other and protecting each other till we die..." Gin said softly.

Rangiku smiled and giggled at Gin's priceless expression.

Gin then continued with his words, "...because...I know that i will die for you. Will you, for me?"

Rangiku gazed at him and nodded firmly without any second thoughts. To her, whether or not the stones were there in their possession,
she would still watch over him and know that he would too.

"All the thougts and assumptions that I had when I was a kid were all wrong, weren't they?" Rangiku sighed as she stared fondly into the depths of the emerald.
She could not bring herself to forget what he had said, fearing that it will all be wiped away.

"If your words were true, then why did you leave? Will you come back for me and watch over me like you used to? Now that you are gone..."

"I can hear your heartbeat, Rangiku. I'm still watching over you and always will...Can you hear my heartbeat that is trying to reach out to yours? Can you hear me as i can hear you?' Gin wondered as he gazed into the quartz crystal, in search of the answers to his questions. To him, she is all that matters, wherever he may be.
