Ino lay worriedly on her bed. She stared at the clock, unable to go to sleep.

Will he be ok?

She threw the blankets off of her silk clad body. She opened the window for some fresh air in an attempt to calm herself down.

She leaned on the window sill, letting the cool night wind play with her hair. She glanced at the empty bed.She wouldn't be able to go to sleep without his arm around her. She prayed his injuries wouldn't slow him down this mission.

Tsunade knew that he was injured. Why the hell did she send him on this dangerous mission? She sighed, her hand in her chin.

What if he doesn't come back?

She pushed these thoughts aside. But she couldn't help but wonder if he'd live. She hoped that an arm in a cast wouldn't be enough to make Sasuke lose his life. She frowned. And of all the days to send him on a mission, why Christmas? He was supposed to be with her right now, giving her that rare smile that no one saw but her.

Instead, he was of risking his life and Ino's sanity. Ino shivered, wishing Sasuke was right here now, keeping her warm.In fact, if he was right here now, she'd be in front of the fireplace with Sasuke instead of this cold, dark room alone.

A single tear rolled down her cheek when she realized...

Sasuke might not be home this Christmas.

Or any day after that.

She bit her lip and prayed that he was safe. She climbed back into bed, telling herself that if she went to sleep, she would not have to think about this.

She pulled the soft covers over her head. But no matter how many sheep she counted or how tight she closed her eyes she could not go to sleep. She sat up, leaning against the wooden headrest. Glancing at the clock, she realized that only an hour had passed.

Not years like it had felt. She couldn't believe she was awake at this time. She got up out of bed once more, pacing around the room. Her feet were cold, but that was the least of her worries. Her tired eyes looked around the room. She was exhausted, but she couldn't go to sleep.

Not with the possibilty of Sasuke's life being cut short.

How would she live without him?

She didn't want to live without him. She blinked away the tears that threatened to spill. She heard a noise, snapping her out of her thoughts.

Her phone had vibrated. Once. Which meant...

There must be a message. Her heart beat wildly against her chest.

That's what the ANBU did to notify of death. She felt her eyes well up with tears. She wasn't sure if she wanted to see what the message was.

Hesitantly, she flipped her phone open. Her heart, if possible, beat even faster.

She opened up her inbox, filled with dread. That's when she saw...

Sorry if I woke you up. I'm ok. See you tommorrow. I love you.

This time, tears of happiness sprung from her eyes. She smiled through her tears.

She lay down and pulled up the blankets once more. She closed her eyes.

And this time, she peacefully drifted off to sleep.
