"Magic is pure evil. I'll never lose sight of that again."

It was the way Arthur said it, so resigned and impassive, that finally made Merlin snap.

"How can you say that?" the secret warlock all but screeched.

"Wh-what?" Arthur sputtered, confused at the sudden outburst.

"I'm not sure if you recall, Arthur, but your father was stabbed. With a dagger." Merlin's face flushed red with exasperation as he continued. "And here you are blaming his death on magic? By the gods, can you be any more of a clotpole?"

Arthur gaped openly as Merlin stormed out of the room.
