A December Night
MSMSMSMSMSMS
This December night was very peaceful, the full moon reflected across the Black Lake, magically charmed to never freeze. A gentle breeze passed over a lone figure, making it shake from the cold. Severus Snape was out making his customary rounds while mulling over what had become of his life. Now that the Dark Lord was gone what would he do? It was then when he realized that he was free. Free without any Masters he had to bow down to, free of any unbreakable vows. Severus sighed, he may be free physically, but mentally was a whole different aspect. The shame and guilt that he locked away during his time as spy began to surface freely. He was ashamed that he was once a death eater and that he was the one who had to kill Dumbledore. He was guilty for the Potters' death, and for calling Lily a "mudblood." Just as Severus feared that his emotions would take over, he heard soft footsteps crunching in the snow behind him. Placing his mask back in place, he turned around waiting to see who was out this late at night.
"Professor?" a soft voice called out to him. Potter Severus thought with a sneer on his face.
"Professor Potter… to what do I owe this… displeasure?" Snape spoke, using his smooth poisonous voice. After the Final Battle Potter decided that he spent enough time chasing bad guys so instead of becoming an auror he settled on the DADA teacher, but not before offering the job to Snape first.
"Professor… is something wrong?" Harry cocked his head towards the left, a puzzled face greeted Snape.
"Not that it is any of you business Potter, but if you must know I've just been thinking over some things," Severus growled. A wolf howled in the distance.
"Things like what?" not receiving an answer Harry continued, "Things such as the war? Dumbledore? My mom? Professor… it's all in the pass… you can't keep living in the past. I think you should just keep it behind you, no I'm not saying to forget it, but don't dwell in it or else you'll drown in your memories. Let the Final Battle mark a start of a new life, and make this life count. Not many people get the chance to start a new life again… unless you believe in reincarnation."
"How very touching of you Potter," Severus sneered; however he was actually thinking over the idea of a new life. On one hand, he didn't want to forget his Lily, or his mentor, but on the other hand a fresh start was something he longed for. Besides, he didn't have to forget the past, just not live in it.
"Think about it, Professor," Harry said before turning around to walk away. He only took three steps when his name was called.
"Harry," Snape's eyes meet Harry's, "thank you."
"You're welcome. You deserve a fresh start after everything you have done. You're the bravest man I know Snape."
"Don't push it Potter!" Snape was well aware that a soft blush was making its way to his cheeks, though he told himself it was because of the cold, not embarrassment.
"Night, Professor," Harry said, before heading to the castle.
"Good Night, Potter," Snape whispered just as Harry reached the door.
