The Lover After Me
**Takeru Chan**

Author's Note: Okay ... this 'song fic' is a little story about Takeru and his troubles after a break up.
I wrote it to go along with Savage Garden's 'The Lover After Me' I really liked this song, and I also really
like Takeru. Well ... here it is...

Takeru gasped. He couldn't believe it. They'd been going out so long. Why had she dumped him?
Hikari turned her back and left. Takeru just stood there, speechless.

Tears welled up in Hikari's eyes as she looked back at Takeru. But he had changed.
Ever since he'd become the star senior on their high school's basket ball team. Girls now swarmed
him. She knew he liked the attention, the girls. Of course he would. Every boy would; girls would
love attention too. She smiled sweetly to the other boy ... the lover after Takeru.

Takeru grabbed his backpack. He ran out of the school, away from Hikari.

::Much Later::

Another image came back to his mind as he walked home. He'd remembered when they took
long walks in the park. He smiled sadly as he came to the bench they always sat in. He looked up at
her apartment. He remembered all those times he had walked to that apartment ... so many times.

Here I go again, I promised myself I wouldn't think of you today. It's been seven months and
counting... You've moved on. I still feel exactly the same. It's just that everywhere I go, all the
buildings know your name, like, photographs and memories of love. Steel and granite reminders....
The city calls your name and I can't move on...

Takeru tried to move on. He smiled to his fans, showed no sadness. He, in a way, loved his fans.
They gave him something to do. He tried to show his "love," but they never, really, seemed to care...

He thought of her on his way to school, he was always late. He saw her smiling...to him...
The Lover After Him...

Am I alone in the universe? There's no love on these streets. I have given mine away to a world,
that didn't want it anyway... So this is my new freedom? It's funny... I don't remember being chained.
But nothing seems to make sense anymore... Without you I'm always twenty minutes late.

Takeru stood in front of her balcony. "Hikari! Hikari!" He called out.

Here I go again, I promised myself... I wouldn't think of you today. But I'm standing at your
doorway. I'm calling out your name cause I can't move on... Every since you've been gone, the lights
go out the same. The only difference is, you call another name: To you love; to your lover now ...
to your love ... the lover after me...
