A/N: Hello. I'm new to writing for this fandom but I've been a fan of it for ages. I just didn't feel fully prepared to delve in just yet, I needed to make sure I was really familiarized with these characters before I write for them. I still don't think I'm quite there, but I'm going to give it a shot! Here's my first multi-chapter fix for this show that I used to love until they killed Carter. LOL. Enjoy! Shoutout to for giving me the push she doesn't even know she gave me and to all the awesome writers on here who give me hope! It's rated T for now and of course will have some Joss/John good times told through flashbacks and present day. :) Mistakes are all mine.
Moscow. 2:33 A.M
Her brow was covered with sweat as she held her index finger over the trigger of the gun close to her side. Her breathing was irregular, and her leg was in pain from the gunshot wound.
Carter looked down at the woman she sat at her side, barely conscious and started to cry.
Leave no man behind.
The old army phrase rang in her hears as she heard rapid footsteps approaching and hushed voices.
"Come now Joss. There's no way out. You and Tessa are losing blood and need help, you can't keep this up. Just show yourselves!"
Joss gripped the gun tighter and bent to whisper to Tessa.
"They are right Joss." Tessa whimpered, steady losing blood from the wound at her side.
"No. We're gonna get out of here. We gotta make it."
"Joss. It's too late. It's done." The footsteps got closer and Joss started to panic, Tessa put her hand on Joss' arm.
"I can't leave you here." Joss struggled to get her sentence out, holding back her tears.
"Joss. Go."
"What?!"
"Go. You have a chance to get out of here, I don't. It's okay."
Leave no man behind.
"Tes-"
Joss stopped mid sentence feeling cold steel pressed against her neck. "I swear to God, if you don't leave I will kill us both. Joss, LEAVE."
Joss swallowed hard, looking Tessa deep in the eyes, watching as the oval shaped eyes whose emerald started to fade into a new hue that Joss couldn't quite place. She saw the desperation but also the hope, and Joss nodded.
Tessa put the gun down at her side, her eyes starting to close.
"Thank you Joss, for everything."
"Tessa?" Joss spoke her name so softly, hoping she'd answer but she knew Tessa was gone. She stood back up, hearing the footsteps getting closer, and ran quickly in the other direction. The last thing she heard was a hail of bullets being fired, and a piercing scream. Joss put her hand over her mouth to stop from crying out.
Leave no man behind.
