A/N: i wrote this for my friend lissybella. she loves Abby and Luka, so here's one for her!

Quiet Moment

Lying on the uncomfortable hospital bed she held her forehead and sighed heavily. Her thoughts were running a mile a minute. So many things all jumbled together. One thought cutting off another.

So many things had begun to spiral out of control in her life lately. Just as she had begun to feel secure in her stability. But that was her life, once she thought she had found a stable path on the icy path that was her life, it would crack under her. Pulling her again into it's icy depths of pain and disappear. That was her life.

Turning to her side she again sighed. Before when she'd fall through it would only be her, only the pain she went through, physical and mental. But now she had her son. This tiny life that depended on her for everything. Deep inside of her this scared her more then anything she had ever felt.

If only he were there with her, with them. When he came into her life she didn't know just what and impact he would have on it. He seemed to have this way of waltzing in and soothing her in her times of need. He cared about everyone, no matter the status in the game of life. He knew just how to deal with her temper and edginess. Depending on which way she went he would either console her or yell back.

He was what she needed. What they needed.

With another sigh she rolled onto her back and placed her hands over her face. Without him here she could feel herself seemingly coming apart at the seems. She couldn't keep her head straight. She couldn't keep her temptations at bay. God she needed him.

Looking to the ceiling she wrapped her arms around herself. "Please hurry back, Luka." She whispered. "Joe and I can't live without you."

Suddenly the door opened, flooding the room with light. "Abby, we need you out here." Called Sam.

"I'm coming." Called back Abby as she kicked her feet over the edge of the bed.

It was back to her job. To the one she had worked so long to achieve. Sighing she stood, pulling on her lab coat and stethoscope. Back to the grind. Now if only she could concentrate on the job. Not the icy water surrounding her life.
