Sam missed sleep.
He truly did.
He truly, desperately missed it.
And this idea had seemed like a good one at first.
But then...all of Sam's ideas had seemed like good ones at first.
Saving the world one swan dive at a time – whether literal or figurative.
But like all those past ideas, now that Sam was actually experiencing this one...he realized it wasn't such a good idea after all.
In fact...
"Sucks, huh?" Lucifer commented dryly, staring down at Sam in the alley.
Sam blinked blearily; feeling strangely disconnected.
Lucifer shook his head. "Oh, Sam..." he sighed. "How many times do I have to tell you?" He paused and slowly approached, holding out his arms to the crouched hunter. "Hugs, not drugs."
