A/N: Yes, the title is a Saya no Uta song. It was unintentional, but it still fits.

The closest Obito could get to heaven was in his dreams.

Paradise was not for him. Rin had never been his. Yet, his subconscious still tortured him.

When he was asleep, Rin was waiting there for him behind every door. Standing in every forest. Cloaked in every mist. And, as always, she would sadly regard him before stretching out her hand. It was as if she knew of his sufferings.

"Come with me."

Yes. He wanted to die with Rin. Obito desired nothing more.

However, he could never reach her. His feet remained rooted to the floor like a dumb rotten tree, and Rin was left waiting.

Obito hadn't known that he was fretting and whining in his sleep until the old man kicked his side. The adolescent Uchiha's eyes flew open.

"Quit it you big baby," Madara hissed. "You're disturbing my peace."

Obito instantly stopped. Silent tracks of tears slid down his cheeks from under the blanket. He wondered if Madara could see them. Or smell them.

"Rin," Madara mocked. "Rin!"

Obito held his breath and waited for the ancient Uchiha to approach him. He crouched by Obito's side.

"Was she really that important to you?" Madara's voice ghosted his ear.

Obito didn't have to convince him because he already knew that it didn't matter. Instead, he played dead and pretended to be comatose.

Madara chuckled nastily. "Sleep now, boy. Enjoy your rest now. There'll be no time for it later."

This time when Obito drifted off, there was just a black void waiting for him.

He didn't dream at all.
