ONESHOT OVERLOAD! XD I'm sorry I haven't been updating as frequently, but with school starting up things are busy! All stories-On hiatus. Updates TBD. Sorry, and here is a sweet Vergura to make up for it. :)
Vert sighed, staring up at the ceiling from where he lay on his bed. It seemed empty without Agura curled up next to him. Their relationship had grown strained with the stress of the war; it seemed bickering ensued nightly.
Agura was truly one of a kind; Vert didn't want to lose her, but he couldn't fix their situation if he didn't know where they had gone wrong.
Today had been the worst, the explosion of the petty battles that were tearing them apart. She had nearly been tumbled off a cliff by Kyburi when Vert had stepped in, distracting the Red huntress until Agura could regain her composure.
"Don't worry, Agura, I got this!" He yelled over his shoulder as both Krytus and Kyburi surrounded him. Vert felt his adrenaline pulse as he fought to keep the two Reds off him.
"You okay?" He asked as Agura, having climbed back up, drove by.
"I'm fine." She had snapped. "I had that under control."
Vert took a deep breath, trying to be rational. "I'm sure you could've handled it, but it looked like you were in a tight spo-"
"Why are you so protective? I can take care of myself!" She was clearly upset that he had taken over.
"I'm just looking out for you! We're a team!" His already pulsing adrenaline was not helping him keep a cool head, and neither was the engaging battle with Krytus.
"You would have let Zoom or AJ deal with it! Just because I'm a girl doesn't mean I'm weak!" She shouted, swiping at Kyburi.
"I don't think you're weak!" He yelled back as the Saber shuddered from one of Krytus's blows.
"You sure ACT like it! You're constantly checking on me, like you're my FATHER or something! I don't need you breathing down my neck!"
"I'm not trying to breathe down your neck, I'm trying to protect you!"
"Why?" She screamed. Such a simple word, but never easy to answer. Vert sighed, bowing his head.
"I...I don't know." It was a lie. Agura seemed to stiffen at this, turning her back on him. They rode home in silence.
Vert gave a long sigh. He hated the fighting, hated the aggression and cold silences. The leader finally stood, resolving to fix this. He needed her back. Vert took out the earphones, moving to open his door. It slid open, and he was surprised to find Agura. She looked up at him, forlorn, and it appeared as if she had been crying.
"I'm sorry." She whispered, and he swept her into a long, tender kiss.
"It's because I love you, y'know." He murmured into her ear.
"Hmm?" She pulled away, confused, and he took her in his arms.
"I'm...overprotective, of you, because I love you. And every time Kyburi fights you, or you attack a Vandal, it kills me. Because I don't want anything to happen to you."
"Vert..." Agura leaned her head on his shoulder. "You know I can handle myself."
"I know." He admitted, untying her soft hair from its tight bun. "And that's what really kills me. You don't need me, Agura." He arranged her dark locks around her shoulders, stroking them with care. "But I need you." He leaned his forehead against hers, sighing deeply.
"I'll always need you, Vert." She pulled away to face him. "Maybe not in the Zone, maybe not as my leader, but I will always need you." They both stood facing each other when their lips met, a passionate kiss to relieve all the tension they had been put through. Vert pulled her into his bedroom, an arm on her waist.
"Vert!" Agura teased, laughing.
"I-I missed sleeping with you." He admitted, and she sighed, kissing his forehead as she laid down next to him.
"I couldn't sleep without you." Agura said as she snuggled into his side. "Night, Vert."
Vert sighed happily, kissing her forehead. "Night."
