The air was crisp, almost light with the onslaught of white that painted the world a little too tranquil for my taste. I let out a small breathe and watched it conjure into a wispy cloud before it disappeared with the surroundings.
"So what'd you get?"
I smiled and my eyes flickered to my right where Julianne returned her own smile but with a slight lilt of curiosity.
"I haven't even begun Christmas shopping, it's hard when, you know, your friends can literally buy a jet just because they want to get a pedicure in Paris." I drawled sarcastically, shoving my face deeper into the white scarf nestled in my neck. However it didn't stop the cold gust of wind that hit my face with fervor.
Julianne let out a chuckle, "True true, there always comes to a point where materialistic goods are useless when you have the money right?"
I hummed in agreement, "Yeah, which is why i'm planning on just taking you guys some where you know? Make some memories as they would say."
We kept a leisure pace as we trekked down the shopping district, it seemed that the snow had gotten worse during the past few days and little could be done even with the generous salt distributed on the pavement. On a side note, yours truly didn't bring her snow boots because those buggers were stuck on the airplane to their final destination, Toronto.
Julianne booked a flight that allowed us a layover in Vancouver for a day, she insisted we visit because she heard the sushi here was unheard of. Granted I've been here on multiple occasions because of the Vampire Diaries shoots, Julianne on the contrary, had never glimpsed this place before.
It only felt appropriate to sate her curiosity, even if the city itself was blanketed in a feet of snow and I was stuck with ankle boots that were not at all fit for this type of weather.
"Oh that sounds nice, what're you thinking of? And if you mention any sort of exotic serpent, I swear to god you will not witness the light of day." Julianne whispered the last part in a menacing manner but failed miserably when she slipped on a small unnoticeable patch of ice.
My hand instinctively reached out and steadied her arm, "Phew, close call there, thanks Nin."
I let out an unfeminine snort, "No problem, and no you won't know what we are doing because it'll be a secret. Also that was one time thing and the poor date didn't even know you didn't like snakes."
She gave me another playful glare as we resumed our walk, "Alright fair enough, but tell me this what kind of person thinks it's cool to bring a serpent out during our meal. And a fucking snake of all things, couldn't it be a puppy? A cat?"
"Someone who wants to impress the Julianne Hough."
Now it was her turn to let out a snort, "Well, a great lot of impressing he did."
As we approached a small Burberry boutique I nudged her gently and jutted my chin out at the store, "Let's go in, I think Mom wanted a new wallet or something."
However, I soon realized that I would never step foot into said boutique. If I had paid attention more carefully I would've noticed the family of five walking towards us, chatting amiably. The youngest of the three had made their way a good few feet from his parents with a fast pace.
"I wanna go there!" He pointed at some thing ahead, his little boots making slight crunching noise with each step. An unusually fast pace that was only accomplished with his snow boots might I mention.
As the small kid continued jogging forward, he looked back at his parents at the same time, trying to get any acknowledgement for his earlier statement. However I wouldn't notice any of this because Julianne and I were too busy ogling a black bag on display and by the time I did realize it, it was too late.
He collided with my legs and in doing so I lurched forward with the force of his weight, mild confusion darted across my face before realization hit me with full force. I keeled backwards losing balance as I felt my feet give way to ice that was definitely not there before.
From my periphery I could see Julianne's eyes widen with alarm and a male voice scream "Watch out!"
A small yelp managed to escape my lips before I met my fate. My back collided with the ground creating a spasm of pain to envelope my spine, next was the dear dear back of my head. Pain blossomed on my right temple and all I could feel was the agonizing ache of my back with every heartbeat.
I was pulled back into reality the moment Julianne gasped.
"Nina! Can you hear me? Oh my god there's blood- call the ambulance now! Nina! Don't you dare pass out on me, don't you dare!" Julianne rattled on in panic, but to no avail my eyes wouldn't listen.
I felt a small weight lifted from my abdomen accompanied with a small whimper.
I could hear a door swing open and the slight crunching of snow but black dotted my vision and was slowly encompassing my world,
"Is everything alright out here?" I could faintly make out the outlines of black heels and a sharp intake of breathe, "Oh my god that's Nina Dobrev."
Her words became nothing but a slight buzz as I slipped away into oblivion.
Ah gravity, thou art is a bitch.
